Newsstand: Sam Hartman holds this Notre Dame QB record

Notre Dame graduate quarterback Sam Hartman, in his first and only season with the team, already holds a program record.

As Notre Dame football’s public relations team pointed out on the website formerly known as Twitter yesterday, Hartman has thrown 14 touchdown passes and 0 interceptions so far this season. It’s the most touchdowns without an interception thrown to start a season in Irish history, passing Jimmy Clausen‘s 9 in 2009.

Hartman set the mark in Week 2 against North Carolina State, with his fourth touchdown pass of the game. He found sophomore tight end Holden Staes for a 35-yard score in the fourth quarter of the 45-24 Irish win.

The most consecutive touchdowns thrown without an interception in program history (regardless of if it was at the beginning of the season or not) is 22, thrown by Brady Quinn in 2006. Hartman needs 8 more to catch him.

Lou Holtz responds to Ryan Day:

“I can understand why he did. He doesn’t want to talk about Michigan, 0-2. He doesn’t want to talk about the big game coming up against Penn State and against Michigan again.

He’s a great coach. He’s done a tremendous job. He’s a great offensive… pic.twitter.com/owvJyiny9g

Quote of the Day

“I appreciate you guys doing your homework to see it. Let’s see it for what it is. You want to know the truth? We can hand this off, what was unfortunate was the execution on the one right before it, if we get that thing finished, then you guys, everybody, we’re good. [Ohio State defensive end JT Tuimoloau] made a nice play on it. I thought it was a fair one that would get complete. Didn’t get completed. So then I get the brunt.”
