Gators sit ‘very high’ for elite in-state safety
Four-star safety Hylton Stubbs, a major Florida Gators target for 2025, was blown away by his experience in The Swamp for the Tennessee game two weeks ago.
“It was awesome,” Stubbs said. “It was a great atmosphere. I talked to almost all of the coaches. And I love the way the defense was playing. They were playing lights out. I haven’t been to a lot of games as of yet, but that was one of the best games I’ve ever been to.”
Stubb, who attends Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin, is the No. 7 safety and No. 84 overall recruit nationally for the On3 Industry. He has visited the Gators five times since April.
“They sit very high — very, very high,” Stubbs told Gators Online. They’re one, two or three. I don’t really have a list, but they are very high.”
According to Stubbs, the Gators have made it clear to him he’s a priority.
“I talk to them almost every day. I talk to (defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong) a lot,” Stubbs said. “They’re definitely recruiting me pretty hard but other schools also are recruiting me pretty hard.”
The UF secondary impressed Hylton Stubbs
As the Gators beat Tennessee, Stubbs paid close attention to the secondary.
“They played great,” Stubbs said. “I talked to (quality control coach CJ Wilford) and Coach Corey Raymond. (The defensive backs) were doing their thing. They were playing great. I saw the kid catch a pick. That was pretty nice, seeing that would be my position. That was pretty cool. I talked to Coach CJ a lot. I also talked to Coach Raymond — I was really with those two. They want me to keep working and come be a Gator as soon as I can.”
The best part about Florida?
“It’s close to home and the atmosphere,” Stubbs said.
According to Stubbs, he will attend the Florida-Georgia game next month in Jacksonville. And, he “most likely” will return to The Swamp later in the season. Additionally, he plans to attend a Miami game.
He does not yet have a commitment timeframe.
“I’ve definitely thought about it a lot,” he said. “But I don’t really have a time set for a commitment. I’m just taking my time and seeing how everything goes.”
