Deion Sanders on Colorado hate: ‘When I came out the womb, I was booed’
When it comes to Colorado coach Deion Sanders, it seems fans either love him or love to hate him. After the Buffaloes suffered a 42-6 blowout loss to Oregon on Saturday, the latter group has been vocal in taking shots at the Buffaloes.
It doesn’t bother Sanders, however, who has grown used to being talked about throughout his career not only as a coach, but also a player both in college and the NFL. He’s found the best way to deal with it is to block it out.
“When I came out the womb I was booed,” Sanders said in his Tuesday press conference. “I don’t have a message to detractors or haters. I don’t take my time to respond and defend myself. Why would I do that? I’m giving you a microphone it I’m doing that. I’m giving you solace that you’re in my life. I don’t care. I really don’t. If it’s been that way all my life, you would think that I’m used to it. I’m not new to this, I’m true to this. I keep going. So I’m good with that, man. This is a comfortable place for me.”
Sanders is hopeful that his approach to the situation will set an example for his players. Continuing, he made the point that there will always be someone throughout life who has something negative to say about you.
Instead of listening to those comments, however, he is urging his team to focus on what they believe they can do to improve themselves.
“It’s about us,” he said. “It’s not about them. Everywhere we go, even in your darn families, you’re gonna have detractors. You’re gonna have naysayers. You’re gonna have doubters. You guys are all shaking your heads like, ‘Yeah, my aunt, she ain’t so good. My sister, she’s ignorant.’ You know I’m telling the truth. It’s gonna be like that.
“God would always allow somebody to be in your path that has a disdain or dislike for you. It’s up to you to keep going. I don’t stop, I keep going. I don’t have stop in me. Not whatsoever.”
