Four-star in-state ATH Boo Carter talks another Tennessee visit

Chattanooga (Tenn.) Brainerd High School standout athlete Boo Carter has been a frequent visitor to Tennessee since his recruitment began. On Saturday, Carter returned for the first time since January and took in a spring practice and spent time with the Tennessee coaching staff. Following the visit, Carter detailed the day with Volquest.

“It was a smooth visit,”Carter said following the trip. “It was good to be out there and see practice and watch the early enrollees. Everybody looked good so far.”

Despite having visited Tennessee over ten times in the past, this was Carter’s first look at one of Tennessee’s practice, and he liked what he saw during the time spent observing.

“I wanted to see the early enrollees and see how they compete and how easy it is for them to get in a groove,” Carter said on this. “As I saw that, they did well, and I think I could fit in.”

Carter also focused on how Tim Banks and Willie Martinez coached during the scrimmage setting, and he liked their energy.

“Coach Martinez, Coach Banks, just how they coach,” Carter added on what stood out about the coaching. “They were pumped up about it. They wanted to win it. They had that energy of ‘we can’t let them beat us.’”

Carter has been talking to Tennessee multiple times a week, with conversations from Josh Heupel to Willie Martinez to Tim Banks. The relationship is continuing to grow.

“It has been cool,” Carter said of this. “The process has been great. It really doesn’t matter what position I play, it is just if I like the school and the school feels like home, that is where I am going and that is the position I am going to play.”

Carter will see Ohio State on an official visit and he could possibly see Michigan on an official during the month as well. He will then towards his attention towards making a decision.

“I am going to make a decision in July before the season, but I am still going to take at least two or three of my officials during the season so I can go to a game,” Carter said on this.

He will return to Tennessee in June on an unofficial visit as well. The Vols remain firmly in the top five for him, as Miami, Ole Miss and Arkansas are schools that trying to work their way into the group.

Carter is currently rated as the nation’s 234th-best prospect, 13th-best athlete, and third-overall prospect from the state of Tennessee in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry ratings. On3 rates Carter as the nation’s 289th-overall prospect and 19th-overall athlete prospect in the class.

What are the On3 Industry Ratings?

The On3 Industry Ranking is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. The On3 Industry Ranking is the industry’s most advanced, complete and unbiased measurement.

The On3 Industry Ranking weights the primary recruiting media services based on past performance data, and overall scouting and recruiting coverage investment.

For football, the algorithm is weighted as follows: On3 (35%), 247Sports (35%), Rivals.com (20%) and ESPN (10%).

The On3 Industry Rating and Ranking increases the total number of 5-stars and 4-stars seven times throughout the recruiting cycle, concluding with 32 5-stars for football and 20 for basketball. This solves for the problem of awarding 5-star ratings too early in the recruiting process to meet predefined quotas. With each passing month in the cycle, scouts in the industry have more data, information and scouting opportunities to evaluate better and project prospects. This process is referenced by the Industry “Strength” meter in the database. Listed below is the football star ranking update schedule:
