TCU commit LaDainian Fields reacts to Kansas State offer
Kansas State has been busy extending new offers to different targets within the 2024 class. All of the four recent ones have actually been made to players committed to a different school in LaDainian Fields, Camren Campbell, Boone Morris and Antonio White.
Fields is an Oklahoma native that is in his senior season of high school and committed to TCU.
“I was surprised about the K-State offer,” Fields admitted. “It just caught me off guard. I am grateful and blessed for Kansas State to offer me.”
Assistant head coach and cornerbacks coach Van Malone extended the K-State offer to the three-star cornerback.
“Malone just called was checking on me and told me that they would like to offer me,” Fields revealed.
The two sides have formed a solid relationship. The Del City High product had been identified by fellow Kansas State assistant Brian Lepak as well. That is a territory the Wildcats have mined with a bit more aggression since he was added to the staff.
However, the communication with Malone is genuine and serious in nature.
“Our relationship is great,” Fields explained. “He’s a great coach and person. He’s very detail-oriented about football and knows a lot about football and other things in life.”
Fields actually camped at K-State over the Summer. He attended the June 25 camp, though he did not receive an offer at that time. The Wildcats still liked him enough to continue the dialogue and were intent on seeing the first few games of his senior film.
His experience with Malone in Manhattan has a lot to do with him reciprocating the interest and opportunity.
“The camp was good and he showed me a lot of things about my position,” Fields noted.
He has a unique tie to Kansas State. Del City High School is the same high school that produced current K-State true freshman Kanijal Thomas. Thomas has also played in three games this season as a true freshman.
“I have seen him play a little,” Fields pointed out. “It’s great to see him play as a true freshman, and I am so proud of him.”
Fields may end end up visiting K-State this season. It is something to keep an eye on moving forward. The Wildcats patience in evaluating the cornerback could pay off in a big way, despite him already being verbally pledged to a fellow Big 12 school.
“Something unique about Kansas State is how they have been keeping a relationship with me and really evaluating me to recruit me,” Fields discussed.
Will K-State pull off the flip?
“I am still committed to TCU,” he said. “But to be honest, right now I am just trying to focus on winning a state championship at Del City with my coaches and teammates.”
