Deion Sanders, Colorado set to host a pair of 5-star official visits this weekend

Deion Sanders, Colorado set to host a pair of 5-star official visits this weekend

All eyes of the college football world will be back on Colorado and Deion Sanders this weekend as the Buffaloes host No. 8 USC in Boulder.

Despite a blowout loss to Oregon over the weekend, there is still plenty on recruiting momentum around CU, and they’ll host some major targets this weekend.

Among them are a pair of five-star wide receivers: Phenix City (Ala.) Central’s Cam Coleman and St. Louis (Mo.) University High star Ryan Wingo.

The latter took an unofficial visit with the Buffaloes in January and will be returning for his second trip this weekend — this time an official visit. Coleman, meanwhile, will take his first official visit since committing to Texas A&M back in July, according to AuburnLive’s Jeffrey Lee.

Wingo recently made stops at both Texas and Missouri, two of the main contenders to land him. But prior to a decision which could come at any point between now and December, he wanted to make another stop in Boulder.

“It was a fun visit,” Wingo told On3’s Chad Simmons after his Colorado visit in January. “It went past my expectations for sure because I’d never been to Colorado, so I kind of thought it was just gonna be real, real cold, kind of a boring city and (it) just really has the football team and stuff like that. But that’s not what I saw when I got there. It was just different. It was a nice place to visit, get to see.”

Colorado has been in pursuit of Coleman for months

Coleman pulled off a bit of a shocker in July when he committed to the Aggies after being considered a lean to the in-state Tigers. But now, as things have heated up, Auburn looks to have even more competition on its hands.

“Colorado came in and offered me last year during basketball,” he told Simmons last week. “They have kept in contact, they have been talking to me and they have shown me something this season. Before the season, the coaches were telling me they had something special coming and they have shown that. I want to get out there, see what it is like and I will take an official visit out there. Coach Prime is doing something big.”

Along with Colorado, a handful of other schools are in contention for official visits later this season, including Florida and Penn State. The Tigers are still expected to host Coleman down the line, and they’re pursuing him as hard as any program.

“Auburn is coming so hard,” Coleman said. “Hugh Freeze was at my game last week, the coaches reach out every day and they want me to be that dynamic duo with Perry Thompson. They are always telling me to come home and be a hometown hero. The coaches preach how the fans would love me there and start that legacy at the home-state school.”

The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder is the No. 12 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 3 wide receiver and the top recruit in Alabama.
