Tyron Smith active but not playing for Cowboys vs. Cardinals

Although the Dallas Cowboys activated Tyron Smith for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, the left tackle is not playing because of an injury. Pro Football Talk reported the news during Sunday’s game.

Two of the team’s starting offensive linemen — Tyler Biadasz and Zack Martin — did not dress for the Week 3 game. That puts Dallas at a pretty significant disadvantage in the trenches against Arizona.

Smith is a 13-year NFL veteran and has spent his entire career with the Cowboys. He’s an eight-time Pro Bowl selection and Dallas could use his experience up front. But it’s proven to be an injury-plagued week for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys are off to a 2-0 start, defeating the New York Giants and New York Jets in the first two weeks of the season.

Cowboys hit hard with injuries during the week

It’s been a rough week on the injury front for Dallas. The biggest news came on Thursday, learning that star defensive back Trevon Diggs was expected to have suffered a season-ending ACL injury.

Diggs sustained the injury during a 1-on-1 drill in practice on Thursday. He had played a pivotal role in a defense that allowed just 10 points through two games.

“Thank you for all the prayers and I appreciate everyone for checking on me! This is just God’s Plan,” Diggs said on X (formerly Twitter) after the injury. “I will be back and better!”

While Dallas can still accomplish big things in 2023, Diggs was one of the top players on defense. It might take some time trying to replace the superstar.

Additionally, the Cowboys also saw an injury to starting center Tyler Biadasz. He suffered a hamstring injury during practice, a big hit to the Dallas offensive line.

“Cowboys’ Pro-Bowl center Tyler Biadasz hurt his hamstring during today’s practice and is undergoing an MRI to determine the extent of the injury, per source,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said. “Another source said, ‘Tyler will be OK.’”

Every NFL team goes through these situations throughout the course of the season. But Dallas seemed to incur all these significant injuries in the same week. The good news is that, in the long run, it sounds like Biadasz should be able to return to full strength soon.

Unfortunately, that probably won’t be the case for Diggs. So, some members of Dallas’ secondary are going to fill a huge void left by his absence.
