From The Road: Thoughts on Top 100 Michigan TE commit Brady Prieskorn
*** Top 100 Michigan tight end commit Brady Prieskorn caught a red zone touchdown pass in the fourth quarter of Rochester (Mich.) Adams’ close loss to perennial in-state power West Bloomfield on Friday. This game showcased how important of a threat Prieskorn is on the offensive side of the ball despite only seeing four targets and compiling only two receptions. He played every single snap on both offense and defense. He’s also the starting strong-side defensive end for Adams. Offensively, Prieskorn was mainly used as the X receiver, but on some plays, he ran in motion or split out close to the offensive tackle. Defensively, Prieskorn recorded a tackle for a loss and a quarterback hurry.
*** Prieskorn’s first catch was for eight yards on the first play from scrimmage for Adams. West Bloomfield sent out UCLA cornerback commit Jamir Benjamin to line up on-man against Prieskorn. There was usually a deep safety over the top whenever Prieskorn ran vertical, post, or corner routes. Prieskorn likely would have tallied more catches had Adams’ quarterback had more time in the pocket. West Bloomfield has one of the most dominating high school front sevens in Michigan, with Colorado EDGE commit Brandon Davis-Swain leading the charge.
*** Prieskorn’s touchdown captivated his red zone abilities as a bigger-bodied player who can high-point the ball in traffic. He managed to box out the cornerback at the two-yard line and then fight his way into the end zone. While Friday was a quieter evening for Prieskorn than previous matchups this season, his stat line through five games includes over 20 catches for nearly 350-plus yards and four touchdowns.
*** Prieskorn told The Wolverine at the start of Adams’ fall camp that he weighed 237 pounds. At 6-foot-5.5, the senior has a solid upper and lower half. If there’s a potential ceiling that Prieskorn could reach physically, it’d be in the 260-pound range. His older brother, Ole Miss tight end Caden Prieskorn, is the same height as the Michigan commit and weighs 255 pounds. Brady is expected to enroll early in January, so beginning hands-on training with Ben Herbert early will let him fast-track results.
*** Prieskorn doesn’t play in line for Adams, but that’ll be a big responsibility while at Michigan. He’s a mismatch nightmare when blocking linebackers and cornerbacks at the high school level and is aggressive while playing defensive end. By early enrolling, Prieskorn will get the proper experience of blocking similar-sized EDGE rushers and strong five techniques in spring and fall camp before stepping onto the field at The Big House. Prieskorn’s impact on defense has heightened immensely from last season due to his muscle mass gains, hand-fighting ability and get-off, which will translate to the other side of the ball. West Bloomfield double-teamed Prieskorn countless times and he still found ways to get into the backfield.
*** Michigan tight ends coach Grant Newsome attended Prieskorn’s game. Their relationship is very close, with Newsome seeing Prieskorn whenever possible at Adams in the offseason before his late April commitment. Prieskorn was the top tight end on U-M’s board this cycle and it’s because of Newsome’s efforts that the Wolverines kept the No. 1 ranked in-state prospect home.
