Recruiting Recap: A productive March on all fronts for Georgia

Recruiting Recap: A productive March on all fronts for Georgia

We’re closing in on Georgia’s first official visits of the Class of 2024 this month, but before we reach that time, it’s worth looking back on what ended up being a productive March for the Bulldogs on the recruiting front.

Two more aboard for 2024

Just a month removed from Signing Day and a relatively quiet February, the Dawgs saw their fortunes pick up steam once again, with a couple of additions joining the fold in March.

First up was defensive back Demello Jones of Swainsboro, who came aboard on March 17.

Jones’ early commitment was a bit of a surprise, with teams such as Alabama and South Carolina pouring in heavily, but the Dawgs were thrilled to welcome him into the fold, as he’d been one of the focal points of Fran Brown’s efforts for some time.

Look for the speedy athlete, who features on both sides for his high school, to be manning the defensive backfield in Athens when he arrives.

The tools should translate naturally, and he joins an already stellar defensive backfield class with No. 1 cornerback Ellis Robinson and four-star safeties Peyton Woodyard and Jaylen Heyward.

And just nine days later, the Dawgs were on the receiving end of good news again, with three-star offensive tackle Malachi Toliver pledging his services on March 26.

Out of Cartersville High, the 6-foot-5, 315-pound lineman became Georgia’s first offensive line commitment of the cycle.

With the likes of Auburn, South Carolina, and LSU among those courting Toliver, it’s an important grab, especially in a cycle that feels light for offensive line talent.

Kirby Smart and company have to be pleased with how March treated them on the commitment front.

Then there was Raiola…

March was a big visit month, with names such as 2025’s No. 1 overall prospect David Sanders in town to see the Bulldogs for practice visits.

But one stood ahead of the rest and for good reason.

That’s 2024’s No. 1 overall Industry Ranked player and quarterback Dylan Raiola.

The top signal caller in the nation spent the St. Patrick’s Day weekend in Athens, and he walked away impressed with the offerings, even with a change at offensive coordinator.

And the buzz has continued to grow since.

Jake Rowe dropped his RPM pick. Chad Simmons continues to be bullish off of the visit that the Dawgs have the steam.

There’s certainly plenty to follow in the Raiola saga.

As it sits now, the Dawgs are in a strong spot and hold the top spot in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

Will they be able to hang on?

That’s the key, but with an official visit set, it’s clear they’ll be in the race for the long haul.

Everyone in Athens is keeping their fingers crossed.

Georgia remains king of the hill

For Georgia, however, even with new commits and trending picks in the RPM little changed as far as the class ranking was concerned.

That’s because there’s nowhere for the Dawgs to go but down.

They entered the month as the No. 1 team in the 2024 team ranking, and they’ll leave the same way.

It’s a tough crown to wear with everyone vying, but for now, Georgia looks to have a chokehold on the spot and will be tough to overcome.

Kirby Smart wouldn’t have it any other way.

Onto April and G-Day…
