Impact of Iowa landing Chris Tadjo

Fran McCaffery and the Iowa basketball program received a bit of good news on Friday night. One week after he made an unofficial visit to learn more about the Hawkeyes, four star forward Chris Tadjo announced on Instagram that he would be part of the 2024 recruiting class for Iowa basketball.

The 6-foot-8 power forward is the second member of the 2024 Iowa recruiting class. He joins fellow and Top 100 commit Cooper Koch in this class. Koch is ranked 92nd by On3.com and Tadjo is ranked 66th in the country.

Tadjo made his official visit to Iowa last weekend and told us that he enjoyed his time in Iowa City. He was hosted by Iowa guard Tony Perkins on the official visit.

McCaffery was looking to add size and rebounding with this commitment and he certainly got that by adding the native of Montreal, Canada. He is know as an explosive player around the rim who plays with power and can get on the glass. This year he is part of the NBA Academy of Latin America and was considering an offer from Akron and interest from TCU and Xavier before committing to the Hawkeyes.

What does this mean for the Hawkeyes recruiting in the Class of 2024?

It will interesting to see what McCaffery and his staff do next. They were scheduled to host four star forward Pharaoh Compton next week. But, it’s fair to say that Compton and Tadjo play the same position, so perhaps the Iowa coaches will decide that they are good with their recruiting in this class and then hold a spot potentially open until the spring.

Initially, the plan was for Iowa to take two commitments in the fall and then look to the spring to fill needs via the transfer portal. But, that can certainly change and is the nature of recruiting.

Bottom line, Tadjo is a very good get for Iowa. On3.com has ranked him highly and the Hawkeyes could really use a strong power forward who likes to get on the glass to pair up with Owen Freeman in the post starting next season.
