2025 4-star QB Ryan Montgomery on Florida atmosphere: ‘It was insane’

Findlay (Ohio) four-star quarterback Ryan Montgomery was among a long list of elite prospects in Gainesville last weekend for Florida’s win over Tennessee.

The atmosphere at The Swamp was electric, according to Montgomery, and seemed to leave a lasting impression.

“The atmosphere was better than advertised,” Montgomery told On3. “The fans were just constantly screaming the whole time. It was insane.”

The atmosphere was a recurring theme when it came to Montgomery’s highlights about his trip to Gainesville. He was equally impressed with the game itself and the facilities inside the stadium, such as the team’s locker room.

As for that performance from the Gators, Billy Napier’s squad knocked off then-No. 11 Tennessee 29-16, moving to 2-1 on the season.

“I thought the team really played well tonight and made a significant jump from when they played Utah week one,” Montgomery said. “The offense was on point and Mertz was phenomenal.”

Florida ‘top 3’ for Montgomery

Montgomery said that the visit left yet another big impression and that Florida was near the top of his list at the moment — “Top 3 for sure,” Montgomery said. After the game on Saturday, he then chose to stay for a half-day visit on Sunday.

“I was able to stay around on Sunday and meet again with the staff,” Montgomery said. “It went great. I was able to watch some film with coach (Ryan) O’Hara and coach (Gavin) Pruett and learn what they are teaching them. It was really cool because as we were watching clips of Mertz from the game he would pull up a clip from my game film that related to what Mertz did. It was great.”

Montgomery said that for now, next on his schedule is a visit to South Carolina on October 14 for the Gamecocks’ game against the Gators.
