Top-5 EDGE Chad Woodfork says USC offer was “really cool surprise”
USC extended an offer yesterday to one of the defenders in Texas. Roy Manning has been keeping an eye on Humble (Tex.) Summer Creek EDGE Chad Woodfork for some time now and pulled the trigger on the offer.
Woodfork is the No. 51 overall prospect and No. 7 edge rushers in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 8 player in Texas.
On3 rates Woodfork higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Per the 2025 On300, he is the No. 39 overall prospect, No. 4 EDGE, and No. 7 player in Texas.
I spoke with Woodfork briefly about the new offer.
“It was a really good surprise,” Woodfork said.
“It was a cool conversation,” he said of speaking with Roy Manning. “He came and saw me in the spring and liked what he saw then. He wanted to see some more on the field stuff and he saw it and decided to finally offer.”
Woodfork holder offers from some of the premier programs in the country such as Texas, Georgia, Arkansas, and others. He has been able to experience different schools in his recruitment but says he recognizes USC as one of the best.
“They’re obviously one of the best schools in the country for football and academics. Also one of, if not the best locations in all of college football.”
Woodfork is an incredible athlete, measuring in at 6-foot-5, 220 pounds. His explosiveness is evident on film but is highlighted by his reported 39 inch vertical jump. He also reportedly squats just under 500 pounds, and benches nearly 300.
Woodfork was reportedly high on Texas, Texas Tech and also Indiana this summer. Woodford has already been to Lubbock and is very high on the Red Raiders, who were quick to offer the 6-foot-4.5, 220-pound edge defender from the Houston area.
Woodford has grown very fond of Longhorns DL coach. Texas is definitely the biggest team to watch moving forward.
USC may be able to get some recruiting help in the Humble, Texas, area as 2024 safety commit Braylon Conley resides in Humble, although he goes to a different school. Over the past couple cycles, USC has been very present in the Houston area, as well as Texas in general.
The talented pass-rusher holds 17 offers from USC, Texas, Georgia, Arkansas, Texas Tech, Nebraska, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Duke, Cincinnati, UTSA, Vanderbilt, Houston, Marshall, Grambling, Incarnate Word and Texas State.
