Blake Corum on Jim Harbaugh’s return from suspension: ‘Someone I would want to run through a wall for’

Michigan running back Blake Corum is very eager for Jim Harbaugh’s return to the sideline Saturday against Rutgers.

Harbaugh missed the first three games of the regular season due to a program-levied suspension but will now be able to be with his team over the weekend. It could be the next spark the Wolverines and Corum need moving forward.

Corum discussed the impact of Harbaugh in an exclusive conversation with On3.

“Definitely happy to have him back this weekend,” Corum told On3. “Definitely has been missed on the sideline for sure. You know, but just having him throughout my career, he’s been the best coach I could ever ask for, you know. He’s someone I would want to run through a wall for, someone that you know, I admire and listen to.

“Just a great overall human being, great coach, players coach. Everything a player wants, Coach Harbaugh has and, you know, I’m blessed to call him my coach.”

Blake Corum hyped for Jim Harbaugh return

So far this season, Corum hasn’t missed a beat. In three games, he has 37 carries for 254 yards, six touchdowns and 6.9 yards per carry. He also has five catches for 28 yards.

“He’s always gonna be there for you,” Corum said of Harbaugh. “Whatever you need, you know, and he loves the game of football. As a football player, that’s what you want. You know, someone that’s willing to go the extra mile and coach Harbaugh, like you said, he’s a player’s coach. And I love him.”

Harbaugh recently talked about learning from a distance while he was out.

“Really would be so much to unpack there,” Harbaugh said. “From other coaches stepping up, other staff stepping up, other players stepping up and just the amount of leadership bonds that were created. All the tremendous positives that came from that. I told you this before but Moses had 70 leaders, how many do we need? A lot. More. That really created an opportunity to do that.”

The former Wolverines and NFL quarterback also specifically noted how he watched the offense operate on television. He is going to bring some of that perspective into team meetings.

“Also how we watch the game as an offense,” Harbaugh said. “Watching it on TV, you can see the things…How I see it my mind is when I’m there and I’m in it and you’re doing everything in real time, you’re more telling people what to do…The perspective for them to see it, for them to watch it and then (ask) what did you do right? What did you do wrong? How did you see this? I’m just kind of excited about implementing that today.”
