2025 4-star QB Carter Smith continues to have a strong dialogue with Penn State

2025 4-star QB Carter Smith continues to have a strong dialogue with Penn State

Carter Smith came out on fire in game one of his junior season last week. The four-star quarterback out of Fort Myers (Fla.) Bishop Verot threw for 336 yards and five touchdowns in less than three quarters. He showed why he is one of the top signal callers in the 2025 class.

Smith has led his team to a 3-0 start and has thrown for 647 yards and nine touchdowns without throwing an interception this season. He has racked up some big offers and since Aug. 1, numerous programs have been in touch. Building relationships is that is the next step for the No. 120 prospect in the On3 Industry Rankings.

“It has been a pretty big change,” Smith told On3. “After not being able to talk to college coaches like that, then to have all being able to call and text at one time has been a big adjustment. It is good though. Being able to communicate and build new and stronger relationships is important for me, so this has been good.”

Numerous schools have been communicating with Smith in August. One he has talked as much as any is Penn State. His options are open, but the Nittany Lions have his attention.

“I visited Penn State for the first time in June and it was great. I spent the day there and I got to tour the gorgeous campus, see the stadium, look at the facilities and meet the coaches. The biggest highlight was probably the people. All were so welcoming to me and my family and that stood out. I got to spend time with Coach Mike Yurcich and Coach Skinny (Chris Mahon). They are great guys and Coach Skinny is my guy. Coach Yurcich is great too. He is such a smart coach and we had a great meeting up there.”

No fall visits are scheduled yet, but Smith would like to take in a game at Happy Valley.

The 6-foot-3, 170-pound four-star is not focused on making a decision any time soon, but it is something he is thinking about.

“I am going to commit when it is right,” Smith added. “I am not rushing, but I am thinking about it. Other quarterbacks have committed, so when it feels right, I will do the same.

“I just want to find a place where I can be happy living and enjoy myself. Education is something I am paying attention to now as well. I look at the alumni, the relationships and how they could help me after football. Then it is about the people and how I feel around them.”
