Top sophomore DT Jahkeem Stewart impressed with the Texas Longhorns

New Orleans, La. – 2026 New Orleans (La.) St. Augustine DL Jahkeem Stewart, one of the top sophomore prospects in the nation, was in Tuscaloosa when Texas beat Alabama.
The 6-foot-6, 265-pound sophomore standout was impressed by what he saw from the Longhorns during their 34-24 win over the Crimson Tide.
“It was great,” Stewart said Monday afternoon. “I actually met up with a couple of my boys I met at the All-America Game. Being back on campus at Alabama was great. It was a great game, especially on the defensive line. Them boys were getting after it in the trenches. I couldn’t hear myself for the majority of it.”
Stewart was a guest of the Crimson Tide on September 9, but that certainly didn’t keep the No. 2 ranked prospect in the 2026 cycle from taking notice of Texas. While Stewart has been on campus before in Austin, it was his first time to watch the Longhorns in person.
“I was there (Texas) in the spring, but that was my first time to see them play,” Stewart said. “They did good. The defense was getting after it. Barryn Sorrell, he did a good job maintaining against the best O-lineman. A great job actually. I was happy with how he performed. (Anthony Hill) is a true freshman, but he showed it doesn’t matter how old you are if you go out and give your all. That meant a lot too.”
Stewart appreciated what he saw from the Longhorns, both in Tuscaloosa and during a spring visit to Texas to take in a practice. He also knows where he wants to see this fall as far as visits go.
“I want to go to USC, Oregon, Georgia, an LSU, another Bama game, a Texas game – some of those big schools,” Stewart said.
Stewart on Alabama and LSU
Alabama: “If you want to be great, it’s the place to be. It’s a sacrifice you want to make in your life. It’s a great place to be the best version of you. If you don’t want to be great, Bama is not be the place for you. It’s a great school, and a great team.”
LSU: “They bounced back. They had a major bounce back from the FSU game. That’s my thoughts on LSU. They are always going to bounce back from their loss. Me seeing them bounce back against Mississippi State is major. Their defense getting after it and staying after it impressed me. Maason Smith being back is major. I look up to him.”
Stewart was on campus at Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Oregon, USC and two or three others this summer.
Stewart is the No. 2 ranked prospect in the 2026 cycle nationally. He checks in as the No. 1 ranked defensive lineman in the class, and the top ranked prospect in the state of Louisiana.
