Emptying The Notebook: Georgia QB intel, making an RPM pick

Emptying The Notebook: Georgia QB intel, making an RPM pick

Georgia crossed the midpoint of spring drills this week with its seventh and eighth practices. Next up for the Bulldogs is the first scrimmage of spring but DawgsHQ has had its ear to the ground all week. We’ve got the latest for you from spring practice and a recruiting nugget.

Let’s start with recruiting. Normally the buzz surrounding a prospect and a visit dies down over time. That has not happened with five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola and his latest trip to Georgia. In fact, the buzz has picked up since he left campus. I’ve heard enough at this point to put in an RPM pick for Georgia. I’m confident in saying that right now the Bulldogs have a clear advantage. Holding off USC won’t be easy but I’ve had multiple sources tell me that UGA couldn’t be in a much better spot.

Sticking with quarterbacks, it seemed after the first couple of weeks that Carson Beck was getting ready to maybe pull away for the starting job. Trusted sources have recently told me that Brock Vandagriff had his best week yet and that Gunner Stockton is also surging.

I know what you’re thinking. “He’s just trying to create some buzz.” That couldn’t be further from the truth. If that was the case, I’d put it out there for everybody to see and how just our subscribers. This is still very much a competition going into the first spring where whoever shines the brightest will have a chance to cover some serious ground.

One name that has really picked up steam this week among those I talk to is Roderick Robinson. More than one source has told me how impressed they are with his burst, balance, and contact toughness. It sounds to me like he had a couple of really good practices this week.

I started hearing good stuff about Dominic Lovett shortly after spring drills began and that chatter is picking up even more as time goes on. One contact paid him a really big compliment by saying that he fits right in with Georgia’s practice culture. He gets after it and makes a lot of plays in the process. That same source raved about how competitive he is and how well that meshes with his skillset. It’s safe to say that Georgia is really fired up about that addition. I’m also told that Dillon Bell had a great week of practice.

Jordan Hall is gaining steam on the defensive line. He’s still learning and getting a lot of hard coaching from Tray Scott, but those who’ve seen him in action talk about how he clearly has the goods. Hall is very tough to block and when an offensive lineman gets the early edge, he doesn’t stay blocked. I’ve also picked up on some buzz surrounding Jonathan Jefferson. I believe Jake Reuse recently mentioned him on The Georgia Show as a guy who needs a good spring. Sounds like that’s happening.

As I sad on The Dawg Walk yesterday, early indications are that Mykel Williams is not serious. I’ve had more than one source tell me that the surgery was to get out ahead of something that might have been more serious. I still haven’t heard anything about a timeline.

Remember last week when I told you guys about Julian Humphrey getting first-team reps? Well, he had gotten some this week but the name guy I’ve heard most about at that position is Daylen Everette. Multiple sources indicate that he has really turned in on the past two or three practices. Everything I’m hearing about that cornerback spot suggests that the competition is fierce and that there are a handful of guys who are practicing like they want it.
