Jhop’s Week Two Top Ten

Jhop’s Week Two Top Ten

Another fun week in the college football world. This week is a little short on big-time games but things start heating up again in week four. Including Oregon hosting Colorado which could be a Pac-12 conference opener with a pair of unbeatens.

Like I said last week, I’ll continue to do this as long as Oregon is in the running or close to a top ten. And so far, that remains the case. Here is my updated top ten in college football.

Here is last weeks for review if needed.

Florida State – Absolutely no reason to move them. The Noles steamrolled Southern Miss en route to 66 points. If you’re looking for a chance to move FSU down, it won’t be because of their own schedule. It will be performances of others that give them a chance to be pushed up. Noles have Boston College this week with Clemson on deck.Georgia – Like FSU, Georgia handled Ball State 45-3 so no reason to move them down. Now Georgia has South Carolina this week with UAB on deck after that. You’re likely looking at the top 2 for at least the next several weeks.Michigan – Probably one of my least favorite of the top ten currently. And there was no reason to move them down this week. Keeping with the theme, Michigan has an easy date with Bowling Green then hosts Rutgers. Penn State – One of our first movements of this week. I decided to move Penn State above Oregon here. They won 63-7, granted against Delaware, but they took care of business. However after Illinois this week, we see Iowa come to town for a better gauge on the Nittany Lions.USC – I’ve been pessimistic about USC for a while now. But I have to give them the benefit of the doubt. Still some concerns about defense and play in the trenches, but they are a monster on offense and Caleb Williams is as good as they come at quarterback. Up next is a chance to feast on ASU after a bye.Notre Dame – The Irish are a good team. I don’t know that they are great at any one thing, rather solid in nearly all facets. This week’s win over NC State was good, not great. But not enough to move them down. The good news, we’ll know who is who in two weeks when No. 6 plays No. 10. (ND is home)Oregon – Look I’m as happy as all of you Oregon won this week. And while it wasn’t pretty, I still love the win, the way Oregon won and the fact they battled in a hostile environment. But now it’s time for the final tune up before you’re tested with Colorado in two weeks.Washington – Like USC, I have a tough time buying too much stock in Washington. There are just too many holes they might not be able to ‘throw their way out of’ at some point. UW heads to Michigan State this weekend which has some serious off-field drama that won’t help them this week.Texas – Dang you Sark. Dang you. It was too easy to call Texas overrated every year and be right. But the win over Bama launches you into my top ten and Bama out. That was Texas’s hardest game on the schedule by far and if they can get past Oklahoma in a few weeks they are set up nicely this season.Ohio State – I’m still not sold on Ohio State. They’ll probably be one of the those teams that get better as the season goes on but they don’t have much time heading to North Bend in two weeks. They also have Penn State and Michigan later this season.
