Snagging interceptions a family job for the Williams’

Snagging interceptions a family job for the Williams’

Max and Marcelles Williams may not play the same position in the defensive secondary, but they do both know how to make big plays for their team.

This weekend, in brotherly fashion, both Max, a redshirt-senior safety for USC and Marcelles, a 2024 USC cornerback commit, notched interceptions. Max’s takeaway came on Saturday against Stanford, while Marcelles’ came Friday night against St. Frances Academy.

It was the first interception of the season for Max, and the second of the season for Marcelles.

He is not at USC but there is another defensive back among the family. Arizona State defensive back Macen Williams, a redshirt junior, is among the group.

It must be a pretty good feeling for the parents of such a successful and athletic bunch. The photo featured on this story is the full family together last season when the Trojans hosted Sun Devils. In three season at ASU, Macen does not yet have an interception, but at this rate, it’s coming.

Marcelles will arrive at USC next season. Unfortunately due to realignment of conferences and ages of the brothers, they will never all be on the field at the same time while in college. I am sure there is some healthy competition among the brothers and their highlight making abilities, but there might be an agreeable on who the top dog is.

It was just a few months that Max went to Twitter to declare that Marcelles was the best brother of the Williams’.

On3 Evaluation of Marcelles Williams – Cody Bellaire (Scouting and Rankings)

Instinctive, playmaker at the corner position. Has terrific change of direction and burst, fluidity is very apparent when forced to flip his hips. Does an excellent job working in his back pedal and driving back down to the football, closes space very quickly. Ball skills are solid, will get his hands on his fair share of passes but nothing too far out of reach from his frame. Attacks receivers at the catch point and at the line of scrimmage, not afraid to be physical. Comfortable and willing tackler around the box, likes to stick his face into traffic. Top end speed is good, not blistering but he can run with most receivers. Frame is a bit thin but not a big concern. Very high floor player here that projects to field corner, could potentially develop into a boundary corner, but his skillset fits well to the field.
