It took a thriller of a game, but Lexington Christian Academy (KY) found a way to come home with a victory on the road against Christian Academy-Louisville (KY) on Friday night.

LCA had to fight through adversity on the road as well as having several players sick throughout the week, but still came away with the victory.

“Every single guy came out here and fought tonight,” 2024 LCA quarterback and Kentucky QB commit Cutter Boley said. “I feel like that’s the ultimate goal. We had guys sticking people. We had guys flying around. Our coaches were coaching their tails off. I couldn’t have asked for any more.”

Although LCA was able to pull away with the win, it wasn’t the easiest night for Boley and the Eagles’ offense.

“They were making it difficult for me there,” Boley said. “Them and Boyle [County] are probably the best defenses we’ll see all year. Those two games are really going to help us in the state championship to get the ring. Playing two teams of that caliber and really our first five teams, those are some of the best defenses and best players in the state. I feel like all those games are going to prepare us for a ring later in the season.”

The biggest drive of the game came in the third quarter when LCA was able to convert on two fourth-down conversions, including a 17-yard scramble from Boley on fourth-and-12, en route to a Brady Hensley seven-yard touchdown.

However, that third-quarter touchdown drive wasn’t enough to close the door on CAL.

With CAL trailing in the fourth, quarterback Cole Hodge connected with wide receiver Justin Ruffin for a 60-yard touchdown to cut the LCA lead to two with 2:09 left in the game. However, CAL was unable to convert on the two-point conversion to tie it. The game still wasn’t over when CAL recovered an onside kick, down by two, with 1:55 remaining and the ball at the 46-yard line.

“There are going to be sudden changes. Who could’ve foretold all of that stuff going on,” LCA head coach Doug Charles said. “We practice hands every Thursday situationally. We didn’t execute well.”

All of it was for naught, however, as LCA junior safety Jackson Dillow made the interception of a lifetime, officially icing the game.

“We had a kid that’s been hurt. He didn’t play last week. He was out with an ankle [injury],” Charles said. “We put him in there and what an interception that cat made. Forget about the interception, what a catch, but he’s that guy, he can do it.”

Boley Evaluates His Performance

Cutter Boley, the No. 140 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking, completed just 10-of-23 passes for 64 yards in the win but had a one-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to set up a 7-0 LCA lead.

In looking at his own performance, Boley didn’t come away with the highest of regards.

“It definitely wasn’t my best, but it definitely wasn’t my worst,” he said. “I came out here and every single play, I gave it everything I had. I had some mental errors that can’t happen again. Besides that, my O-Line fought their tails off. Everybody around me played hard. I couldn’t have asked any more from our guys.”

Boley said this was likely one of the toughest defenses he’ll face all season, helping him prepare for his goal of winning state.

“I know they were giving us some difficult looks, but they were giving us some stuff we liked and wanted to attack,” he said. “I just wanted to stay calm, understand what I’m doing, and really think through everything that’s going on – the scheme, the concept, and everything.”

With this game out of the way, Boley said this team is focused on winning a state championship.

“I moved here last year and they couldn’t have welcomed me any better,” he said. “It’s my ultimate goal for these guys to take them to a state championship and win them a ring. I feel like that’s what everybody deserves here.”

As for his decision to commit to Kentucky, Boley said a lot of it came down to offensive coordinator Liam Coen.

“It’s not just him, but that was a big part of it,” he said. “I love that offense and I feel like that kind of offense fits me perfectly. I want to play for all the people that raised me. It’s just a blessing to be able to have [my family] at every game. They’re the best support I could ever ask for. I want to play for all my family and friends and play for the state I grew up in.”

Cutter Boley Prepares for His Time at Kentucky

After making the move from 2025 to the 2024 class in May, Cutter Boley’s timeline to prepare for college has sped up tremendously. With that, he’s had to work on improving his ability to read schemes and defenses.

“I’m [working on] just getting more fluid at reading defenses, reading coverages, reading guys’ balance and position on defense,” Boley said. “Definitely my pocket movement. Things like that I can always get better at. Definitely just the mental part of the game.”

When it comes to his upcoming time at Kentucky, Boley is getting to see the UK 2024 recruiting class expand day by day.

“I love it. We’ve got Hardley [Gilmore] and we’ve got all kinds of receivers,” Boley said. “We’ve got David Washington Jr. We’re going to have some gross guys when I get there. We’ve got players committed across the board. We’re going to have playmakers either way.”

Charles made a point to emphasize that Boley has only played in a spread offense since the start of last season and it’s still an adjustment as he prepares for Kentucky.

“He’s still learning this system and still learning his ability,” Charles said. “He’s got immense talent and he can do some crazy things. Sometimes, he needs to play within the scheme and the scope of what we’re doing.”

Even with the learning curve of adjusting to a new system, Boley has made huge strides this season.

“He’s a great kid,” Charles said. “He’s a leader and he’s a really humble guy that’s got a lot of pressure on him. Everywhere he goes, everyone is looking to see what this cat’s going to do. I expect good things from him. I know Kentucky is very happy to have him.”
