GameQuest: Vols set for excited home-opener against Austin Peay
Tennessee is set to open the home slate of the 2023 campaign with a 5 o’clock eastern kick against Austin Peay Saturday evening on Rocky Top.
What areas of improvement do we need to see from the Vols before the big showdown in The Swamp next week? Who will play and who is sidelined with injury? How early should we expect to see some of the reserves take the field?
How good do these alternate unforms look the Vols will be donning today in honor of VFL great and SEC trailblazer, Condredge Holloway?
Grant Ramey and Eric Cain preview all the action ahead of Tennessee and Austin Peay.

What Grant Ramey is looking for in Tennessee vs. Austin Peay…
“A fast start. To start exactly the way you should do against this kind of competition. We haven’t seen a ton from Joe Milton in terms of sample size of what he looks like as a starting quarterback in this offense. I guess it’s just three games now, but not terribly fast starts in the last two against Clemson and Virginia. Obviously, they ended up putting points up in both of those games and finding a rhythm a little bit later on but just a faster start a cleaner star. I don’t think you have to see anything differently from this defense. Exactly what they did against Virginia, do that again. They’ll be just fine.
Cleaner special teams. That was kind of one of my bigger surprises from the Virginia game. Just kind of the hiccups there and they didn’t really expect that we saw cleaner specialties from middle last year. So just be clean and just take care of business early and get his get your young guys on the field as quickly as you can and give them as much minutes as you can and build that kind of quality depth.”
