Road notes: The latest intel on elite LB Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng’s Notre Dame football recruitment

While the Notre Dame football program has made positive progress in one Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy linebacker’s recruitment, the Irish are still fighting to get Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng to campus for a visit. 

Owusu-Boateng told Blue & Gold after IMG Academy’s 34-14 victory over Indianapolis Ben Davis on Friday night that he does not have any visit plans to make it to Notre Dame soon. But that’s not to say the Irish coaching staff are not making a push. 

According to the 6-foot-2, 210-pound Owusu-Boateng, Notre Dame director of recruiting Dre Brown is doing a great job keeping in touch weekly. Defensive coordinator Al Golden and head coach Marcus Freeman are also heavily involved in the four-star’s recruitment. 

Owusu-Boateng’s primary interest in the Irish is because of the life-after-football aspect.

“With all these schools, I am looking for the school that is going to do the best for me on and off the football field,” Owusu-Boateng said. “We’re not going to be playing football our whole lives. I’m just seeing what all the schools can offer me.” 

The On3 Industry Ranking — a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services — considers Owusu-Boateng the No. 27 overall player, No. 3 linebacker and No. 5 prospect in Florida. He has a 94.47 rating.

Owusu-Boateng — originally from Manassas, Va. — reports 25 Power Five scholarship offers. In addition to Notre Dame, Florida, Miami and Colorado are the three teams in touch with him the most over the last 39 days. On Aug. 1, college coaches could begin contacting college football recruits permissibly. 

Owusu-Boateng transferred to IMG Academy after playing his sophomore season for Hyattsville (Md.) Dematha Catholic.

Last Sunday, Owusu-Boateng was in Orlando to watch LSU and Florida State square off. He’s also reported previous unofficial college recruiting visits to Florida (2), Miami (2), Ohio State and South Carolina. He noted that traveling for game day visits from IMG Academy during his football season is difficult. 

If Owusu-Boateng does follow through with his intentions to visit Notre Dame eventually, it would most likely come in the offseason. He is the brother of former Irish standout linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.

In On3’s own rankings, Owusu-Boateng is the No. 65 overall player, No. 6 linebacker and No. 13 prospect in Florida. On3 most recently gave him a 92 rating. 

Owusu-Boateng’s On3 NIL Valuation annual value is $98,000. That ranks No. 229 among high school football prospects.
