Jimbo Fisher breaks down how Texas A&M’s attitude compares to 2022

Jimbo Fisher breaks down how Texas A&M’s attitude compares to 2022

There is no doubt Texas A&M had a few off-the-field issues during the 2022 season. Jimbo Fisher has to suspend multiple players throughout the year for various reasons. The on-field performance did not help too much either, being a campaign everyone in College Station will want to forget.

Even after just one game, Fisher is seeing a turnaround in the locker room’s attitude. He believes everyone is hungry to go out there and perform, as shown by a routine win against New Mexico in Week 1. The changes from last year are positive thus far.

“I’ve seen good changes,” Fisher said. “I think the leadership has done a great job of helping change that. I think they have a purpose. I think they have a chip on their shoulder. I think they’re hungry to play. We practice that way and prepare to play. Hopefully, we continue to play that way.”

Texas A&M had some younger guys play critical roles last season. When you have a recruiting cycle such as the 2022 class, some inexperience is going to sneak onto the depth chart. The older, veteran presence was maybe something missing.

Now a year older, the Aggies will be getting their first potential punch in the mouth on Saturday. A trip down to Coral Gables is next on the schedule, facing off against Miami. Mario Cristobal‘s team will be looking for revenge from a season ago.

Fisher is excited to see how his team responds when adversity is thrown their way. Heading into the game, he is confident Texas A&M is going to be ready to bounce back and pull off a victory.

“They’re mentally tough,” Fisher said. “I think we have great mental toughness. We’ll find out going on the road in a hostile environment. We’ll find out. We’re definitely going to find out because there’s going to be some adversity.

“How you deal with it, how you handle it, what happens, and minimize the damage. Get back to your fundamentals and come out of it. Right now, I feel confident we’re able to do that.”

A win against Miami would give Texas A&M a great opportunity to head into SEC play undefeated. ULM will be the Week 3 opponent before Auburn comes to town.

But there will be no looking ahead from the Aggies, wanting to take care of business in their premier nonconference game of the season. The maturity level of the locker room compared to last year has to give Fisher a good feeling about Saturday afternoon.
