Five things: Why Kansas State moves to 2-0

Five things: Why Kansas State moves to 2-0

1.) I look for Kansas State to be a bit more impressive and sharper versus Troy on Saturday, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Typically, the biggest improvement comes from game one to game two and the Wildcats have more to prove. The offensive line started slow and Will Howard wasn’t as good as we’ve seen him before, for example. Strides should be taken in that department.

2.) They will hear it all week and they heard it all offseason. K-State is 2-3 against Group of Five opponents under head coach Chris Klieman. The Wildcats fell to Navy in the 2019 Liberty Bowl, to Arkansas State in 2020 and again to Tulane a season ago. It sounds like their tentacles are up and are hoping to redeem those failures.

3.) Another week means likely more snaps and an even fresher Uso Seumalo and Daniel Green. Kansas State limited Seumalo to 11 snaps in the opener, though Green took his usual share. Both were bouncing back from training camp injuries. K-State will also have the services of John Pastore, who also suffered an injury in training camp, though he may not be available for game speed just yet. At least a dose of Keagan Johnson should also be a boost to the Kansas State offense.

4.) The Wildcats won in week one not just because they were better and more talented but also because they dominated the line of scrimmage, defensively. That should continue against Troy. Not only will they have an even better version of Seumalo, but the Trojans are weaker up front on offense and also don’t have the most elusive quarterback. It could be a game where K-State is able to cause a lot of havoc and disruption.

5.) As most know, I have went against the grain and bellowed all offseason that I don’t believe in Troy. And after their first game where they defeated Stephen F. Austin just 48-30, I still don’t. The Trojans were fortunate a year ago to win 12 games, and that was a club better than this year’s version. Some see it as about a two-score game, but I see the margin of victory being greater.
