4-star QB Deuce Knight would want to play for ‘offensive-minded’ Hugh Freeze

4-star QB Deuce Knight would want to play for ‘offensive-minded’ Hugh Freeze

AUBURN – The Tigers hosted Deuce Knight, a 4-star 2025 quarterback from Lucedale (Miss.) George County, on Wednesday.

Knight currently holds an Auburn offer which he received on Jan. 17 shortly after Hugh Freeze and his new staff took over.

Knight is the No. 82 overall player in the country, the No. 8 quarterback, and the No. 3 player in the state of Mississippi for the class of 2025 according to the On3 Industry rankings.

Knight’s offer list consists of Ole Miss, Tennessee, Southern Miss, Notre Dame, Indiana, Mississippi State, Tulsa, Washington, Southern Miss, USF, Texas A&M and Memphis. Ole Miss and Tennessee are the top two schools for Knight, respectively, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) with the Vols in the lead.

Knight enjoyed first Auburn visit

Knight made his first visit to Auburn on Wednesday. He left impressed with the facilities and campus.

“This was my first time,” Knight said. “I really didn’t have any (expectations) coming in, I just wanted to stop by and see the places that are recruiting me. It was a good time, the campus was nice. It’s the best facility I’ve been to, so I had a good time.”

Knight spent most of his time at Auburn practice.

“It was fun watching practice,” Knight said. “They competed hard and the offense had a good day. Just seeing them throw it around and move the ball around was cool.”

What did he like about the offense that he saw on Wednesday?

“I know they run a lot of zone, so the quarterback can pull (the ball) and show how athletic they are,” Knight said. “They take a couple of deep shots to show their arms off, so that’s the stuff I do too. It was pretty cool seeing all of that.”

The offensive minded head coach at Auburn has Knight’s attention.

“Coach (Hugh) Freeze is an offensive minded coach, I’m an offensive player, so that’s the kind of offense I want to play for,” Knight said.

Montgomery the lead recruiter

For the most part, Knight spent time with Tigers’ offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery.

“I was with Coach (Philip) Montgomery today,” Knight said. “I was just watching to see how he coaches. That was really it. Seeing how he coaches was the biggest thing I wanted to come see. He coached well, he made sure all of his players know everything, in meetings he was asking questions making sure they knew what to do before getting on the field.”

What was his main message on Wednesday?

“Really, that he is going to make sure that I feel the love from here,” Knight said. “To stop by and see them, that’s really it.”

Knight has not begun to narrow any thing down, but does want to get to that in the near future. As a quarterback, he wants to jump in and class and help build it.

“I really don’t have any top schools, so they’re right in the mix, I guess,” Knight said. “Yes sir, I do kind of want to commit early. When you’re a quarterback you’re automatically the leader of a class so just committing early and trying to get other guys to come play with you is something good to do.”
