Is there a reason to believe Tennessee is a threat for USC commit Kameryn Fountain?
If you regularly peruse the WeAreSC forums, you probably have seen a thread on the topic of Tennessee working to flip the commitment of USC edge rusher commit Kameryn Fountain. The buzz comes from a recent story and conversation in the On3 Network on the topic and the chances of that development taking place. The discussion has caused some interesting discussion.
So, I figured I would look at some of the facts for the WeAreSC readers and weed through some of these ideas.
The conversation started with VolQuests’ Austin Price discussing Tennessee’s pursuit of Fountain and the chances something happens. He says it may the Vols may not be far out of the race.
“Well they’re working to get him to campus, and I think that’s where it starts.” Price said. “You’ve got to get him to campus sometime this fall. If you’re able to do that, then you have a legitimate chance to potentially flip the Southern Cal commit. He indicated to the staff that Tennessee was in a phenomenal spot when he left here at the end of May. He went on his official visit the first of June and committed to USC.
This is an interesting idea as Fountain has reaffirmed his commitment to WeAreSC recently.
“My great grandparents are from down there, so I just wanted to go down there and see [USC] for myself,” said Fountain. “I always had a thing for that school, so I made sure that was one of my top schools. And not many people get that opportunity to get out there, play for that school or even get looked at. So, I just took advantage while I had it and made sure it was my first visit….and last one. It was also my best one.”
“It just feels like home there at USC,” said Fountain. “It is like a real family down there. They made me feel real comfortable and I can just be myself down there.”
Family has pull for Fountain
One of the biggest catalysts for Fountain in his recruitment, including his commitment to USC, was his mother, Kaycee Crawford.
On his visit to USC this summer and ever since, Crawford has been extremely supportive of the Trojans on social media. She has even discussed their future in Southern California and her excitement to be on the west coast in the future.
Most of her posts include some sort of reference to USC or garnet and gold emojis. She has also referenced her and Kameryn as being in the ‘Trojan family’.
It seems as though the family is locked in with USC and their future as Trojans. At this time it would take some unforeseen circumstances for us to believe USC is in danger of losing his commitment. And this is recruiting, so anything can happen at any time, but right now, I feel confident in USC’s ability to hold onto Fountain.
