Big Names expected for Ohio State home opener
COLUMBUS — Ohio State is in need of some home cooking. The Buckeyes return to Ohio Stadium for the first time since the spring game, but in a formal sense since their loss in The Game. Even though they won their season opener on the road at Indiana, it was a performance the Buckeyes wanted to see more from.
Ohio State now has a much easier task as it hosts Youngstown State on Saturday for a 12 p.m. kickoff. It is also the first opportunity that recruits will be on campus in the 2023 season. Lettermen Row rolls out an early guest list at the start of the week and the impact on who will be there.
WR commit Jeremiah Smith
Five-star Hollywood (Fla) Chaminade-Madonna Prep wide receiver Jeremiah Smith reportedly will visit Ohio State this weekend. The No. 1 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Rankings hasn’t been on campus since the spring game. Smith, an Ohio State commit, has been everywhere else it seems including Florida, Florida State and Miami.
Every team in the country is going to push for Smith to flip his commitment. But he has made his stance clear on where he is going.
“I am still taking visits even though I am committed,” he said. “But I know where I want to be and that’s Ohio State.
“I want to be a first-round draft pick like Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and soon Marvin Harrison Jr.” “So that’s what I’m gonna do and I’m gonna do that at Ohio State.”
LB commit Garrett Stover
Four-star Sunbury (Ohio) Big Walnut linebacker Garrett Stover told Lettermen Row earlier this fall that he will be at just about every home game. The No. 11 linebacker in the country per On3 also confirmed that he will be an early enrollee and be on campus in January.
Stover earned an invitation to the All-American Bowl over the summer.
RB commit Sam Williams-Dixon
Three-star Pickerington (Ohio) North running back Sam Williams-Dixon is closer to campus, it is expected he will be at nearly every home game. Williams-Dixon is piecing together a stellar senior season at his new home in Central Ohio.
CB commit Aaron Scott Jr.
Four-star Springfield (Ohio) cornerback Aaron Scott Jr. has his recruiting process behind him. He is only 40 minutes away from campus and hasn’t been since the SummerFest event. The last game he attended was the Michigan game as well.
OL commit Ian Moore
Following his game Friday night, four-star New Palestine (Ind) offensive tackle Ian Moore said he was going to try and make it to the Buckeyes’ home opener. He noted that Saturday morning film might hinder that plan, but he would like to make it.
2025 QB commit Tavien St. Clair
Four-star Bellefontaine (Ohio) quarterback Tavien St. Clair has been adamant that he will be at as many home games as possible this fall. The No. 104 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Rankings gets his first opportunity Saturday.
2025 RB target Marquise Davis
Four-star Cleveland (Ohio) Heights running back Marquise Davis will be in the Horseshoe on Saturday. The do-it-all player for Cleveland Heights is on a tear in the first three weeks of his season and the Buckeyes are closely watching.
