Tennessee had no issues with Virginia in the opener on Saturday, winning 49-13 in Nashville at Nissan Stadium. Now, the home-opener awaits with Austin Peay coming to town. The game will serve as a final tune up for the Volunteers prior to going to The Swamp the following week.

“You look around college football. Georgia scores in the 40s. Alabama scores just barely in the 50s. Michigan scores in the 30s – I would say towards in the 20s. I mean, it’s the first week and everybody is a little rusty, but he’s knocking the rust off. What you want to see is that growth and everybody gets a little bit better. That’s across the board. So offensively, you hope to see better rhythm coach Heupel talked about. Defensively, you hope to see some of those young guys continue to blossom. You’d love to see James Pearce – I’m not going to say he’s going to get two sacks again, but you’d love to see him be as disruptive as he was last week. You’d love to see Deavin Hobbs continue to make plays. And then for me, I’d love to see guys like Elijah Herring, Tyre West – with that group of sophomores that I’ve talked about all season. See them continue to make more and more plays across the board. I think Tennessee was trying to find its footing much like everybody else in college football. I think it’s about just taking what you did last week, which was really solid – not your best, but it didn’t need to be your best – really solid and build on.”
