Florida assistant planning to watch top-100 Gators commit on Friday

With the Gators playing at home on Saturday and having a 7:30 p.m. kickoff, Billy Napier’s staff is planning to make their rounds on the recruiting trail roughly 24 hours prior.

According to Gators Online sources, Florida inside linebackers coach Jay Bateman is planning to watch linebacker commit Adarius Hayes on Friday evening.

Hayes, a top-100 prospect from Largo (Fla.) High, has a home game against Boca Ciega. The Packers are 1-1 on the season but coming off a 28-0 shutout loss to Lakeland.

As expected, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound senior has been good as advertised through two games.

Hayes is also an Under Armour All-American who could very well become an early contributor in Gainesville. He has plenty of business to take care of at Largo first, but witnessing UF’s season opener has him even more excited to make a difference in the Orange and Blue.

Tabbed as a four-star prospect, Hayes is the No. 6-ranked linebacker and No. 55-ranked prospect overall. That is according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

“I feel like the Gators have a young team this year, but that was an early loss for them to say they have a young team,” Hayes told Gators Online. “In my opinion, I feel like the Gators will bounce back for the next game against McNeese State.

“Also, that loss from Utah will help them prepare for better teams in the long run. We got this.”

As for Saturday’s matchup against McNeese State, is Hayes planning to be in attendance?

“I will not be at that game, but I feel like the Gators can pull this one through. We got this,” said Hayes.

Hayes has the recruiting process in the rear-view mirror

In addition to the Gators, Hayes is armed with offers from Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Miami, Florida State, Notre Dame, USC, Auburn and Oklahoma among many others.

However, thankfully for UF fans, the blue-chip linebacker recently shut down his recruitment. He also plans to sign in December and then early enroll a few weeks later.

“Right now, they said I will be a middle linebacker, which is a MIKE linebacker. On third downs, they will have me come down to JACK and come off the edge and blitz the quarterback, but it will mainly be middle linebacker,” Hayes previously told GO.
