100 yards with Miami 2025 commit Luke Nickel

100 yards with Miami 2025 commit Luke Nickel

For the first time since the summer, Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton 2025 quarterback and Miami commit Luke Nickel made his way back down to South Florida for a matchup against Western High School. Although the contest didn’t go Milton’s way after falling to the Wildcats 14-10, Nickel enjoyed his time back down south, just 30 minutes away from his future home in Coral Gables with the Hurricanes.

“It feels great being able to spend time here with my teammates, and being able to be here in my future home is awesome,” Nickel said while walking 100 yards in our continuing CaneSport series.

Although Nickel may be a 2025 prospect, after conversations with Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal and offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson, the Georgia native knew Miami was the place to be.

“I thought it was the best fit for me,” Nickel said. “Talking to coach Cristobal and coach Dawson, I really like the fit they have, the fight that they want to win, and the winning culture they’re going to bring, and I just want to be a part of it.”

After throwing for 2,507 yards and 24 touchdowns as a sophomore, Nickel is looking to take the next step during his junior season at Milton. When asked how he would describe his play style, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound quarterback had this to say: “I’m a high competitor, and I fight for my team as much as I can. I’m very accurate with a strong arm, and my ability to move in and out of the pocket is one of my strengths.”

When he isn’t throwing around the rock on the gridiron, you can find Nickel with friends or on the greens at your local Fulton County golf course.

“I just like to hang out with my friends and family and maybe play some golf,” Nickel said. “Just do things with my friends and family and just spend time with them.”

While there may still be two years until he can make things official with Miami, Nickel is counting the days until he arrives on campus and becomes a Hurricane.

You’re getting the hardest worker you’re going to get,” Nickel said when asked what Miami is getting in him. “Someone who is going to lead his team, who will fight to the end and work really hard, and just be the biggest competitor he can.”
