Mailbag Podcast: Is Tennessee back?

Mailbag Podcast: Is Tennessee back?

Spring football is into its second week with a big-time scrimmage approaching on Saturday. Who has made the most noise thus far and who needs to step things up for Josh Heupel’s football team? Football recruiting is in full-swing as well. How many tight ends could the Vols take in the 2024 class?

Basketball season is over, so what are some names we are hearing in the transfer portal? And baseball has its biggest test to date with a trip down to No. 1 LSU this weekend for a three-game set beginning on Thursday.

Brent Hubbs, Austin Price, Rob Lewis and Eric Cain answer these questions and more on this week’s episode of the Volquest Mailbag Podcast. It’s presented by Exterior Home Solutions. For a free estimate, give them a call at 865-524-5888.

What the Volquest guys are saying on Tennessee…

Austin Price on if Tennessee would take all three tight end targets: Jonathan Echols, Jaden Reddell & Max Lablanc….

“That’s a great question. In fact, I asked that question the other day and I haven’t gotten an answer. It’s an interesting proposition because Tennessee is not going to turn down Max Labanc at Baylor if they can get him He still has some visits left. Anything can happen on those visits so by no means is that one done, but Tennessee got a lot of momentum coming out of last weekend. They’ve got Jaden Reddell coming in this weekend for a two-day visit. He’ll be in town for a 7-on-7 but is going to do more than just the 7-on-7 stuff. Obviously, Tennessee feels like its still in a pretty good spot with Jonathan Echols. I don’t know the answer to that – I wish I did. I want to lean yes, but do all three want to come here? If two were here, I just don’t know how that would play out.”

Brent Hubbs on Tennessee pursuing another quarterback this spring if Nico is not the ‘heir apparent’….

“No, I don’t think there’s a third scholarship quarterback who would want to come at this point. I don’t know how you prove to be the hair apparent. Five practices in, I don’t think anyone is going to say, get Nico’s bust ready for the Hall of Fame, nor are they going to say he can’t play. I don’t think it changes anything.”

Rob Lewis on hoops transfers…

“As far as guys going out, not anybody that has one foot out the door. This week, everybody will meet with Coach Barnes to talk about their futures and to go from there. Right now, as far as guys on the team, I’m not hearing anybody that’s headed out the door for sure but in this day in age you never rule that out. Guys coming in, the [Dayvion] McNnight kid from Western Kentucky – the point gaud – is someone Tennessee is really series about. The transfer from Harvard – big man who averaged 18 points a game last year. Chris Ledlum. Big man out of Harvard who is a fifth-year guy. Those are two that I know are real, but I’m sure Tennessee has reached out to a ton of other guys. I’m sure they are serious about those two.”
