2024 RB committed elsewhere shares the latest with Alabama

2024 RB committed elsewhere shares the latest with Alabama

The Alabama Crimson Tide are still searching for their first running back commitment in the 2024 class.

One of the prospects on their radar is Chicago (IL.) Mount Carmel’s Darrion Dupree. Dupree reported an offer from Bama back on Aug. 2. The four-star running back has been committed to the Wisconsin Badgers since July 7.

In a recent conversation with BamaOnLine, Dupree said he’s been in weekly contact with Robert Gillespie.

“I’ve been talking with the running backs coach. We’ve been communicating like once a week,” Dupree told BOL. “He’s just trying to get me down there for an OV and getting to know my family better.”

The possibility of soaking up knowledge from both Gillespie and Nick Saban at the next level is intriguing to Dupree.

“I think he’s a great coach,” Dupree said of Gillespie. “He’s coached some of the great running backs as of late in college football. I know I can get developed from that type of coach, especially under Nick Saban.

“It would be a great experience,” Dupree added. “I know I would definitely get developed there.”

Dupree brought up Saban once again when discussing his reaction to last month’s offer from Bama.

“I was excited,” Dupree said. “It’s Nick Saban. One of the top college programs right now… I don’t know how to explain it, but I just felt really grateful. It motivated me more that I’m being looked at by Nick Saban, one of the greatest coaches.”

Alabama’s running back tradition stands out to Dupree

Gillespie has spoken with Dupree about getting him to Tuscaloosa sometime this season. As of his conversation with BOL last week, Dupree has yet to schedule a trip to Alabama.

Official visits to Alabama, Missouri, Illinois, and Washington are being considered, but Dupree’s focus has primarily been on his senior season and his commitment to Wisconsin.

If Dupree was to officially visit Bama, it would be his second trip to the school as he camped there just over a year ago.

“It was a great experience, I’m not going to lie. When I saw the stadium, it was like an NFL stadium,” Dupree said. “[If I officially visit], I want to see the campus. Meeting the coaching staff. Look around, and see if it’s home.”

Dupree cited Nick Saban and Alabama’s player in his assessment of the program. Their running back history, in particular, is another aspect that stands out to him.

“It’s really ‘RBU’ under Wisconsin. I feel like that’s a great opportunity, if I was to go there,” Dupree said. “Some of the best running backs have been through there and got developed there. I know if I was to go there, I’d be developed really well just like all the other running backs. Like Derrick Henry and Jahmyr Gibbs.”

The 5-foot-11, 188-pound back informed us that Gibbs is one of the players he models his game after.

Jahmyr Gibbs and Alvin Kamara,” Dupree said of who he draws inspiration from. “I would say my catching ability. My balance… me staying up and not being tackled. And the all-purpose stats. I can do anything outside or inside. Just an all-around back.”
