Penn State – West Virginia recruiting list surpasses 70 prospects following latest update

September has finally arrived, which means we’re just one day out from the start of Penn State’s 2023 season. For the first time under James Franklin’s leadership, the Nittany Lions will host a Power Five opponent to start the season in West Virginia. Considering how often Penn State recruits against the Mountaineers, Franklin and his staff plan to maximize the opportunity.
With an environment that should rival the annual White Out game, Penn State plans to leave a strong impression on the region’s top 2025 and 2026 prospects. Since Thursday’s update, we’ve confirmed a handful of additional players who are expected to attend tomorrow night’s game.
Below are the latest names to know.
CB DeShawn Stewart (2025)
Penn State was hopeful to get DeShawn Stewart on campus for a camp at one point this summer, but once it was clear he couldn’t attend, they offered anyway back on Aug. 9.
At 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, On3 lists Stewart as a wide receiver. However, our sources have suggested that Penn State likes the DePaul Catholic (N.J.) prospect more as a defensive back. The 2025 prospect holds 11 scholarship offers. Notable schools include Boston College, Cincinnati, Duke, Pitt, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.
WR Sah’nye Degraffenreidt (2025)
A native of Atlantic City, N.J., Sah’nye Degraffenreidt has visited Penn State twice before, including the Lasch Bash Barbecue at the end of July. The previous trip was to watch spring practice in March, making this visit his first opportunity to see a game in Beaver Stadium.
Degraffenreidt has earned a dozen scholarship offers so far. Notable schools include Duke, Maryland, Michigan, Pitt, Rutgers, South Carolina and West Virginia.
DE JT Taggart (2025)
JT Taggart will be visiting Penn State for the first time. After growing up in Tampa, Fla., he made the decision in June to transfer from American Heritage in Delray Beach to Calvert Hall in Baltimore for his junior season.
Although PSU is yet to offer, the 6-foot-5, 210-pound edge rusher does hold some quality offers from Colorado, Louisville, Miami, Minnesota, Pitt and Purdue.
RB D’Antae Sheffey (2025)
A native of State College, D’Antae Sheffey should be a familiar name to most fans by now. Listed at 5-foot-10, 190 pounds, the Little Lions running back holds nine offers so far, although Ja’Juan Seider is yet to make that move. Cincinnati, Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse and Virginia Tech are the top schools to offer so far.
OL Da’Ron Parks (2026)
Da’Ron Parks is the only West Virginia native expected to attend the game. Listed at 6-foot-5, 275 pounds, Parks has earned 12 scholarship offers so far, including Penn State. The Nittany Lions were actually the first Power Five school to make that move. Now, Cincinnati, Florida State, Miami, N.C. State, Ohio State, Pitt, Virginia Tech and West Virginia have all done the same.
DE Luke Wafle (2026)
Luke Wafle is the younger brother of 2024 Michigan DL commit Owen Wafle. Although he wasn’t included in On3’s early 2026 watch list, 247Sports has already given him a four-star rating. So far, Boston College and Rutgers are the two schools that have offered. Wafle attended the Blue-White Game back in April.
