Social Slant: Auburn names team captains for 2023 football season with video

Auburn football, on Tuesday night, dropped a video via social media naming the team captains for the 2023 football season in dramatic fashion. Senior edge Elijah McCallister, Senior offensive lineman Kam Stutts, Senior tight end Luke Deal, and Junior quarterback Payton Thorne will be the team captains for the entire season.

According to the video, the team was asked to vote on the team captains. A speech was given to the team from associate head coach and running backs coach Cadillac Williams beforehand to explain how important voting on and being named team captain is. Williams was voted a team captain during his time at Auburn.

What’s your greatest accomplishment in sports? Man, its the guys sitting in these seats, just like you, many moons ago, who voted for me to be a team captain. There’s nothing more special than that. I mean it’s two decades later, man, and I still have a brick out there on Jordan-Hare of being a team captain, fellas. It never leaves you.

Who is that player? Who are the players on this football team that capture you guys’ heart? Who is that player, through tough times, that is there for you? Who is that player who is echoing Coach Freeze’s words of being selfless, being a team, being ‘we?’ Who are those players? We all have a body of work, and you guys know those players, man, that do things right on and off the field. Four guys in here, are going to have an honor to be the captain right here at Auburn University. Take pride in this University, because a lot of people before you guys have paved the way and gave you an opportunity of a lifetime. Take pride in picking these captains, fellas. Appreciate you guys, War Eagle.”

Tigers’ coach Hugh Freeze also added this to the video.

The four elected captains for the 23′ Auburn football team are Elijah McCallister, Kam Stutts, Luke Deal, and Payton Thorne.
