Florida Gators among those standing out to Brandon Brown, UF legacy
MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — Brandon Brown, nephew of former Gator Joe Cohen, said Monday he enjoyed his late-June visit to Florida for Friday Night Lights and plans to return for a game this season. And, he added, the Gators are one of the programs that currently stand out.
One reason for this: The work of Florida defensive line grad assistant Kali James Jr.
“He hits me up every day,” said Brown, a 4-star 2025 defensive lineman at Eau Gallie High.
Brown camped in James’ group at FNL and was impressed.
“I like him and his workout,” Brown told Gators Online. “We did speed and agility drills, stuff like that. I feel like I needed to run back more after I do a one on one. Get back. I wasn’t running like I normally do. (James) liked how I used my hands — hand movement. … I liked the camp and I liked how it was inside.”

Brown, listed at 6-foot-2 and 275 pounds, is the No. 19 defensive lineman nationally for the On3 Industry Rankings. He hasn’t filled out his fall visit schedule but said “I want to go to Florida vs. Florida State (in Gainesville).”
Which programs stand out?
Brandon Brown says he’ll visit the Gators again this fall
Brown mentioned Florida, LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, Tennessee and “definitely Miami.” The Hurricanes appear to be a team to watch and seems to be a serious threat to land him.
In fact …
“Miami, definitely is hard to beat right now,” Brown said. “No. 1 probably. The love they show is great down there. I’ve been there three times and I feel like home every time I’m down there.”
Brown plans to return to Miami Sept. 9. The ‘Canes play host to Texas A&M that weekend.
With Florida, Brown hopes to have a more in-depth visit in the future. When he was there in June, “it was a quick little walk-through. I didnt’ really take a full visit.”
Even with Miami trending up, Brown called Florida a legitimate contender.
“Yes, definitely … I’ve just got to get back out there for a visit,” Brown said.
Where does Brown sit on the Florida recruiting board? That is unclear. He said Monday he hasn’t yet spoken much with defensive line coach Sean Spencer.
As for a commitment timeframe, Brown said it potentially could happen later this year.
