LSU prospects in Texas shine in Week 1
LSU has gone back into the Lone Star State and established itself as a player with Texas prospects. In Week 1 of high school football action, the Dallas area future Tigers did not disappoint.
Here’s the rundown on some of the key prospects plus some recruiting notes.
*** 2025 five-star LSU wide receiver commit Dakorien Moore went absolutely nuts Friday night in a massive win for Duncanville over fellow defending state champion South Oak Cliff. Moore caught seven passes for 281 yards and three scores. Moore said programs like Auburn, Texas, Texas A&M, Miami and others are still pushing, but LSU’s got his commitment. He said it’s something he’s dreamed about since he was little to commit to the Tigers. Moore could very well end up as the No. 1 wideout in 2025.
*** 2024 LSU commit and Aledo (Tex.) linebacker Davhon Keys nabbed two interceptions for the Bearkats in their win Friday night. Keys is coming off a strong offseason and is going to make his push this season to climb into the four-star ranks. Once again, Aledo is a state championship contender. He previously told us he’ll take his official visit for the Florida game.
*** 2024 LSU commit Caden Durham exploded on the first drive for a 68-yard touchdown run, but South Oak Cliff was able to bottle him up for the most part after that on the ground. That wasn’t the only way that Durham impacted the game though. He caught a couple short passes, had one deep wheel route go off his finger tips and another deep wheel route called back due to a penalty. It was tough sledding, but Durham’s strength helped him eclipse the 100-yard rushing mark.
*** If LSU needs to look at another quarterback for 2025, four-star Duncanville (Tex.) signal caller Keelon Russell went off on Friday. He passed for well over 300 yards and four touchdowns, including some tremendous passes on the move. He’s entering Year 2 as the starter for the Panthers and should only look more comfortable as the season goes along. He’s closing in on a decision with Ole Miss and SMU at the top. LSU doesn’t have an offer out yet, but he camped last summer in Baton Rouge and has plenty of interest.
*** Two 2025 defensive backs for Duncanville, cornerback Javion Holiday and safety Tyren Polley both had different showings. Holiday was just solid, not showing too much flash overall. He’s looking to raise his stock this fall and will need to be a bit more of a difference maker to do that. Polley on the other hand was really physical and nabbed an interception off South Oak Cliff. Polley’s already a Top 250 overall prospect and Top 20 safety nationally on the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
