Newsstand: Seven days until the Michigan Marching Band will ‘take the field’
Tweets Of The Day
One week from today, the Michigan Wolverines football team will take the field for its season opener against East Carolina (noon ET on Peacock). With that comes the debut for the Michigan Marching Band. Public address announcer Carl Grapentine will introduce it with his iconic call of, “Band, take the field!” Roughly 110,000 fans will be on their feet, cheering along to ‘The M Fanfare,’ ‘The Victors,’ ‘Let’s Go Blue’ and ‘Varsity,’ songs that are part of the rich musical heritage of the University of Michigan.
Michigan senior wide receiver Roman Wilson has switched his jersey number from 14 to the iconic No. 1, worn by multiple legendary wide receivers in program history.
Wilson is set to be a featured receiver in Michigan’s offense this season.
“Roman has had a phenomenal camp,” offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Sherrone Moore said earlier during fall camp. “Just very excited for what he can do this year and how he’s going to impact the offense. Obviously, the injuries have hindered him, but he’s been healthy, he’s been ready to go. Just super excited for him and the progress he’s made.”
The Michigan players elected as captains graduate defensive back and returning captain Mike Sainristil, graduate left guard Trevor Keegan, graduate linebacker Michael Barrett, senior running back Blake Corum, senior defensive tackle Kris Jenkins and senior right guard Zak Zinter. Here’s M Go Blue TV’s Ed Kengerski with a report from Schembechler Hall.
Yesterday marked eight days until Michigan begins the season against the East Carolina Pirates.
Quote Of The Day
“My phone’s kind of been blowing up,” Keegan said. “It means everything. I feel like I kind of had to earn my role here, really work to be in the role I am. I’m honestly at a loss for words. It’s at true honor being elected by my teammates. I’m going to do everything I can to lead them and be the best leader I can be. [Zak and I], we’ve played a lot of games. We’ve seen a lot. We’ve been here the longest. We know the program in and outs; we know what’s good. We’ve always led by example; we always do the right thing. Never been late to a meeting or missed a lift. I just kind of think it’s how we were raised by really good parents.”
