Chauncey Bowens recaps Rocky Top trip

Florida native Chauncey Bowens has been a Florida Gator pledge for quite sometime but that hasn’t stopped schools from recruiting him. He was in Knoxville Saturday to get a look at Rocky Top.

“I had a good time,” Bowens said. “I got to hang out with coach (Jerry) Mack and pretty much all the coaches.

“I’m not going to lie, I knew the offense was high-powered and fast, but seeing it in person, seeing how fast they run is crazy.”

He has enjoyed getting to know the staff and loved every minute he got with Mack and head coach Josh Heupel.

“I mean, they definitely show love, and I got to see some of that in person,” Bowens said. “I mean, (Mack) going to keep it real with you. He’s an authentic guy. He stays in contact with me a lot, so from that standpoint, I mean, I like that….

“I mean, we’re always staying in contact, and Coach Heupel, so it’s good to be in contact with him.”

Bowens set down with the staff and went over how they envisioned using him if he came to Tennessee.

“Pretty much, how I could be in space,” he said. “And you could see that it’s pretty much stuff they do with their players now, just getting them in space, and how I could be put into that with my skill set.”

He also got to take in practice which included watching how Mack works with his backs and how the backs work inside the white lines.

“Those guys, they’re all dogs,” he said. “But what I noticed was, like, they have very similar skill sets to what I have, being very quick and powerful, so I got to see that in person and how I would fit into that.”

So what would it take to flip from him from Florida? He isn’t sure but he is still listening and has other trips coming up.

“There’s nothing specifically, obviously, because it’s, like, a certain point of just love and how I feel,” Bowens said. “But, I mean, there’s nothing specifically. I mean, it’d have to be something — I don’t even know. I can’t even name it. But it’s just a feeling that you have. I ended up having that feeling when I committed to Florida.”
