Elite 2025 WR Caleb Cunningham high on USC early on
USC extended an offer to elite Ackerman (Miss.) Chocktaw County wide receiver Caleb Cunningham a little over two weeks ago.
Cunningham is the No. 12 overall prospect and No. 4 wide receiver in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 1 player in Mississippi.
On3 ranks Cunningham higher though, tabbing him as the No. 2 wide receiver in the 2025 class.
It appears that new offer is already standing out to the talented wideout. Cunningham spoke with On3’s Chad Simmons about his recruitment.
“I am very interested in USC,” Cunningham told On3. “They have a good history, they are a winning program and they have a great staff. I talked to Coach Riley and Coach (Dennis) Simmons on the phone for the first time when they offered and they seem like great guys. USC is a school I want to visit this season and I want to learn more about that. I know they have developed some top receivers and that they have some good people there.”
As Cunningham mentioned, I would expect him to make a visit out west for a game.
Cunningham put USC on his list of schools that have his attention early. He hasn’t officially put a list of top schools together yet, but outside of USC, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Louisville, LSU, Miami, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Tennesseeare schools Cunningham said he is high on.
“It is about who stays in contact with me and who makes me feel wanted. Those schools have done a very good job with that. I have visited each except for Auburn and USC too, so I have a feel for the campus, I have met the coaches and I like the feeling with those schools.
“Then it is about the fit. I think I could fit into those offenses well, make an impact early and do well at those schools.”
USC has a lot to offer at the QB position
Lincoln Riley has never struggled to recruit the wide receiver position but it is possible he is making it even easier for himself. With the quarterback situation of the future with Miller Moss and Malachi Nelson for the foreseeable future followed up by the nation’s No. 1 prospect in Julian Lewis, wide receivers will know for a fact they will have some elite signal callers on their side.
And with the opportunity for Lewis to reclassify to 2025, Cunningham is a prime candidate for him to recruit to join him in Los Angeles.
On3 Prospect Evaluation on Cunningham
“Bouncy outside receiver with the upside to become a skilled ball-winner. Listed at an unverified 6-foot-3, 185 pounds. Moves well at that size. Shows the ability to come down with catches in contested situations. Naturally coordinated and can locate the football at its highest point. Also shows some ability to make defenders miss after the catch. Doubles as a fantastic high school basketball player who lives above the rim, throwing down dunks with regularity.”
“Also posted strong marks in the high jump (6-0 feet) and triple jump (43-4.25 feet) as a freshman. Has considerable natural ability but will need to hone his technical skill at the position over the final few years of high school football. Could stand to be more productive. Plays at a smaller high school and doesn’t face top competition.”
