USC Commit Visiting for the First Time Since Spring Game
USC has landed a commitment from one of their top remaining defensive targets, receiving a pledge from 2024 Humble (Tex.) Atascocita defensive back Braylon Conley on June 30.
Conley is the No. 620 overall prospect and No. 60 safety in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 108 player in Texas. We could see a rise similar to Christian Pierce coming for Conley by the end of the season. At the very least, should he perform well this season, he’ll add as fourth star to his On3 ranking.
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound defensive back becomes the 16th commit for USC in the 2024 class. He is the fifth defensive back in the class to date, joining West Hills (CA) Chaminade High four-star safety Marquis Gallegos, Bellflower (Calif.) and St. John Bosco four-star cornerback Marcelles Williams.
Conley has long been a favorite of USC defensive backs coach Donte Williams. He took two visits to USC, one coming in April and the most recent being his official visit in late May. The Trojans were the leader in his recruitment for the entirety of that time. Conley did visit other schools this summer including Arkansas, Utah, Auburn, and Texas.
Conley is the third prospect from the state of Texas to commit to USC’s 2024 class, joining McKinney (Tex.) running back Bryan Jackson and Arlington (Tex.) Martin offensive lineman Makai Saina.
Going back to (the) Coli
Although Conley has visited USC several times, he hasn’t been on campus for a few months. But he informed WeAreSC earlier this week he’ll at the Coliseum on Saturday with his family to take in USC vs San Jose State. Conley’s looking froward to talking to 4-Star Edge target Jaylen Harvey in a couple days.
“I hope he joins us,” Conley said.
Conley is only scratching the surface
Conley’s father was also excited about the potential of Braylon’s development at USC. He says what we see from Braylon now is still a brand new version of him.
“I knew he was good enough [to play at the next level], but what people have to understand too, he just started playing defensive back in 10th grade,” he said. “He never play ‘DB’ before. It’s crazy because you see what he can do now, but he’s working with Ro [Simon] and we got a lot of really good coaching at the school. So, he’s still got so much room for growing.”
Offer sheet
Conley holds 31 total offers. His group of offers seems to outweigh his ranking at this point.
His offers are from USC, Texas, Michigan, Georgia, TCU, Oregon, Arkansas, Auburn, Louisville, Washington, Kansas State, Utah, Nebraska, Texas Tech, Wisconsin, Colorado, Duke, Michigan State, Kansas, Iowa State, Arizona State, California, Maryland, UNLV, Oregon State, SMU, Eastern Washington, Missouri, Tulsa, UTSA, Memphis, and Akron.
Perhaps I’m old school, but which scholarship offers a player owns is significant for me.
Conley’s Projected Position in College
A major discussion among fans is about Conley’s true position. Conley is ranked by recruiting services as a safety, but the Trojans are recruiting him as a cornerback.
While it’s also possible for Conley to get looks at nickel, with Marcelles Williams and potentially another cornerback like Sione Laulea filling the outside roles. Laulea is still uncommitted, but USC, Oregon and Miami are his top three schools. It is likely all the cornerbacks will be tested at both outside and nickel, which will decide who fits where.
On3 NIL Valuation for Conley
Conley has an On3 NIL Valuation of $29K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
