Lucky Charms: Pair of 2025 offensive line recruits predicted to land at Notre Dame
Here are today’s Lucky Charms, a Monday-Thursday nightly insider notes article on Notre Dame football recruiting.
This week, I logged predictions for the following four class of 2025 players to commit to Notre Dame: Winter Garden (Fla.) West Orange safety Ivan Taylor, Indianapolis Ben Davis cornerback Mark Zackery, Bryant (Ark.) High running back Daniel Anderson and Greenwich (Conn.) Brunswich School’s Ethan Long. How about two more?
*** Waukesha (Wis.) Catholic Memorial’s Owen Strebig, who ranks as the No. 73 overall prospect and No. 9 offensive tackle per the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking, visited Notre Dame in April and was back in South Bend twice over the summer. And Blue & Gold’s Kyle Kelly reported last Tuesday that Strebig will return for the Ohio State game Sept. 23. Four visits in five months is a very good indicator for where Notre Dame stands with Strebig, and my sources believe that logging a prediction at this point is a good call.
The 6-7, 295-pounder is also a huge target on Notre Dame’s 2025 board. The staff badly wants Strebig. I feel good about this prediction for the Irish.
“I really like (Notre Dame),” Strebig told Blue & Gold on June 26. “I’m really at a good point. They’ve done a good job of recruiting me. I’m really, really liking Notre Dame right now.”
*** The other new prediction is for the Irish to land Greenwich (Conn.) Brunswick School’s Matty Augustine, the No. 345 prospect and No. 25 offensive tackle according to the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking. Like with Strebig, Augustine also visited once in the spring and returned to South Bend twice over the summer. He picked up his offer from the Irish after impressing the staff at their Lineman’s Challenge camp in early June.
During my last conversation with Augustine, he did admit to me that other tackles committing could push up his decision timeline. The vibes in my conversations with Augustine and talks with sources is that Notre Dame is going to be tough to beat for Augustine, who also holds offers from Alabama, Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State and others. Augustine plays his high school ball with the aforementioned Ethan Long, who I’m projecting to end up at Notre Dame, too.
“This trip was a ton of fun,” Augustine said following his July visit. “It was different than other visits but in a good way. I got to connect with coaches and other O-linemen on the team and recruits in a way that I haven’t before. It’s good to get to know kids you could play with one day. It was great to spend a day with the coaches, have fun and compete.”
