Lucky Charms: Four-star running back locks in Notre Dame official visit
Here are today’s Lucky Charms, a Monday-Thursday nightly insider notes article on Notre Dame football recruiting.
*** On3’s Chad Simmons reported that Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day’s Anthony Carrie, the No. 237 overall prospect and No. 17 running back according to the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking, has two official visits locked in. The four-star talent will head to Notre Dame for the weekend of June 10 and North Carolina the following weekend. Carrie also announced a top-six schools list of Michigan State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and South Carolina.
“My official visit will be my first time there,” Carrie said regarding Notre Dame. “Their academics paired up with the football culture stands out. I like how they use and rotate their backs. It allows them to be productive.”
Carrie is looking at all out-of-state programs, so distance shouldn’t be too much of a factor here. It’s hard to gauge how big of a contender the Irish are for Carrie considering he hasn’t visited yet, but we’ll know more as the summer approaches and he takes his official visit.
*** Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy’s Payton Pierce, the nation’s No. 201 overall recruit and No. 21 linebacker per the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking, is trending towards Ohio State after his weekend visit in Columbus. Four On3 insider predictions have been logged for the 6-1, 210-pounder to choose the Buckeyes, and the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) has OSU in the lead at 60.7 percent.
In talking to multiple sources here, his first trip to Ohio State really impressed him, and he already had a strong connection with Buckeyes analyst James Laurinaitis, who was previously at Notre Dame. As things currently stand, Pierce is still slated to visit Tennessee April 1, Notre Dame April 15 and Wisconsin April 22. If Pierce sticks with that visit plan and doesn’t commit to Ohio State in the immediate future, then that will be a big win for the Irish, as well as every other school still in pursuit of him.
So, Ohio State has the lead for Pierce currently, but Notre Dame can fight back if Pierce doesn’t commit in the near future, but even then, the Irish may still fight for him.
*** Last Thursday, Notre Dame hosted Hartland (Wis.) Arrowhead’s Garrett Sexton, the No. 544 overall prospect and No. 35 offensive tackle according to the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking, for a visit. Minnesota, Iowa State, Purdue, Tennessee and Iowa are among his scholarship offers, but Notre Dame has not extended one to him yet. He’s one who the staff will continue to evaluate moving forward, though. Notre Dame will be picky with its offensive line board.
