UGA ‘definitely’ in the mix for top 100 EDGE Amaree Williams

UGA ‘definitely’ in the mix for top 100 EDGE Amaree Williams

When Georgia fans think of Palm Beach Gardens’ The Benjamin School, it’s likely that standout running back Chauncey Bowens comes to mind first, but there’s another name that Dawg fans need to keep on their radar when it comes to the south Florida football factory — that’s junior EDGE Amaree Williams.

“Georgia has been recruiting me heavily since mid-freshman year. I received an offer after Coach Smart landed in the helicopter at my school in my sophomore year,” Williams said. “Since then, I have grown a great relationship with Coach Uzo [Chidera Uzo-Diribe] and the rest of Georgia’s coaching staff. I took a visit back in March, and I was supposed to be back there in July for the Georgia barbeque Things came up, so I wasn’t able to make it, but some things that I have learned about the coaches is that they emphasize on not just making great football players of their recruits and players but also creating great men.”

That’s not all that stands out about the defending National Champions either.

“Something I think is unique about Georgia’s approach is they want to get to know you as a human, like when I hop on the phone with Coach Uzo,” he said. “We will just have conversations about life, and it doesn’t always have to pertain to football. Another thing that I like is how they keep everything 100 percent like there is no sugar coating when you talk to them.”

Amaree Williams’ talented teammate is putting some sugar on the name of the Dawgs, however. While the 6-foot-4, 205-pound defender is listening closely, he’s also taking a measured approach toward those comments.

“Chauncey has told me about all the great EDGE players that have come out of Georgia and is always telling me how if I commit there I will continue on with their legacy of legends,” Williams said. “I mean I feel like it’s always ideal to play alongside someone you’ve grown up with or around, but I don’t believe in letting his commitment influence my commitment.”

Georgia will have a chance to influence Williams’ thought process in the coming months, though.

“I definitely am planning on getting there for a game as soon as I figure out my schedule and when I have off,” he said.

The Dawgs are already heavily in the mix ahead of that.

“Georgia is definitely one of the top schools up for consideration in my recruitment,” Williams said.

It’s not just Georgia that’s taken a keen interest, however.

“This past month has been crazy because, since August 1, coaches are able to communicate with us without restriction. Because of that, I’m able to see which schools actually prioritize me as a player. It is also a huge adjustment with the amount of communication put forth. I have really felt prioritized by USC, UGA, Tennessee, FSU, Miami, and so on,” Williams said. “Coach [Lincoln] Riley texts me every morning just letting me know what’s up and checking on me. That’s the same with Coach [Josh] Heupel. Coach Dell McGee texts me every morning with a bible verse, and Coach Uzo checks in on me every other day or so. Coach [Mike] Norvell has also been in touch with me very frequently and gave me his personal number.”

Amaree Williams is the nation’s No. 76 overall prospect in the Class of 2025.
