Lucky Charms: Notre Dame football recruiting tidbits

Here are today’s Lucky Charms, a Monday-Thursday nightly insider notes article on Notre Dame football recruiting.

*** As we’ve reported in the past, Notre Dame only planned (and still currently plans to our knowledge) on taking one tight end in the 2025 class. The Irish landed Nate Roberts in mid-June, but he announced his decommitment from the Irish this week. Notre Dame kept in contact with Irish legacy James Flanigan and had interest in him as an “athlete” but otherwise, contact with other tight end prospects cooled down, to our understanding.

Milton (Ga.) High’s Ryan Ghea, who ranks as the No. 264 overall prospect and No. 13 tight end per the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking, told Blue & Gold that Irish offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Gerad Parker contacted him Tuesday. It’s the first time the two parties have communicated in a while. Ghea is a prospect who was vey high on Notre Dame and visited campus back-to-back weekends in the spring. The Irish would be tough to beat here if they push for him.

We logged a prediction for Flanigan to end up at Notre Dame, but that doesn’t mean the staff couldn’t add both Flanigan and Ghea. They have options.

*** After Isiah Canion surprisingly decommitted from Notre Dame in early July, the Fighting Irish staff evaluated new prospects (such as Logan Saldate who would end up picking ND) and circled back to other prospects. One player who told us he heard from position coach Chansi Stuckey and Co. was Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day’s Bredell Richardson, the No. 364 overall prospect and No. 61 wideout according to the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking.

We reported that there was likely going to be little to see there, as the Irish staff loved what they saw from Saldate and things never heated up on Richardson. And last week, Richardson announced his commitment to the UCF Knights. Richardson was a huge receiver target for Notre Dame early, but as time went on, that faded away.

“I went back and forth,” Richardson told On3 in an interview about his commitment to UCF. “I thought I was going to three or four different schools at different times. It was Notre Dame early, but it was just too early to make a decision. Over the last eight months or so, it was LSU. Something just held me back.”

*** Baton Rouge (La.) University Lab’s Keylan Moses, the No. 157 overall prospect and No. 15 linebacker according to the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking, announced his top eight schools recently. Alabama, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Notre Dame, Oregon, Tennessee and Texas made the cut for him. The Fighting Irish offered Moses back on Pot of Gold day, but since he’s yet to visit campus, there’s been very little buzz about Notre Dame here.

Moses does come from the same high school that produced Irish freshman linebacker Jaiden Ausberry, so that connection could give Notre Dame an interesting angle here, but unless news of Moses taking a trip to South Bend surfaces, we’d categorize this in the long shot category.

LSU is considered the favorite for Moses.
