A.P. Poll is out, and Miami Hurricanes are nowhere to be found with six opponents on the list

A.P. Poll is out, and Miami Hurricanes are nowhere to be found with six opponents on the list

The preseason USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll was released recently, and perhaps it didn’t surprise many that Miami, off a 5-7 season, wasn’t in the top 25. Miami was among the “Others Receiving Votes,” which some quick math shows that UM is ranked in a tie with Minnesota at No. 40 based on the voting points of the poll (16 points).

Some may have taken umbrage to that given that the Canes have reshaped the roster, return injured players like QB Tyler Van Dyke and seem poised for a much better season.

Then the AP Poll came in today. And it was a bit bigger of a slap in the face for Miami.

The Canes weren’t in the top 25. Or even in others receiving votes.

In fact, there were six opponents (vs. the five in the USA Today poll) that found their way onto the list – Florida State at No. 8, Clemson No. 9, North Carolina 21st, Texas A&M 23rd and then in others receiving votes there was Louisville (10 votes, tied for 34th) and NC State (1 vote, tied for 46th).

No, Miami apparently isn’t among the top 49 programs in the nation per the A.P. voters.

So that us against the world thing should be in full swing in Coral Gables right about now.

Both major polls, by the way, had Georgia at No. 1 with Michigan at No. 2. The AP had Ohio State No. 3 (USA Today No. 4) with Alabama No. 4 (USA Today No. 3). LSU was No. 5 in both polls.

Based on the AP Poll, it seems inferred that the expectation is around a six-win season (with the six teams perceived as better in the preseason poll).

The Canes certainly plan on besting that and moving up in the poll as the season moves along with a reshaped roster and new coordinators on both sides of the ball.

Oh, and for those that are still interested in the program that Mario Cristobal helped build up at Oregon: The Ducks are ranked No. 15 in both major polls.
