Rusty’s Ramblings: More from Georgia’s first preseason scrimmage

Georgia scrimmaged for the first time this preseason on Saturday. It was brutally hot on the Sanford Stadium turf but the Bulldogs got it in. After having Sunday to check on some things, DawgsHQ has more intel from that scrimmage.
*** One guy who has carried over some momentum from the spring game is Mekhi Mews. He’s on track to earn a few snaps based on what we are hearing. Mews had a huge spring game and he continues to flash when given the chance to make plays. He may not be in the top six wideouts, but he’s doing what he needs to do in order to stay in the conversation and maybe the rotation.
*** I am told that both Joenel Aguero and Jacory Thomas got reps with the ones over the weekend. That does NOT mean that I am projecting them to start, but it tells you the staff is getting them ready to play. David Daniel-Sisavahn and Tykee Smith also got work with the ones at safety and STAR. I think both have a shot to play a lot. As expected, Smith seems to be the early favorite at Star. Malaki Starks obviously is the guy at one of the spots at Safety as well and Javon Bullard is working at the other safety spot.
*** Mentioned it on the The Georgia Show last night, but defensive lineman Zion Logue is off to a great start in camp and I am told he had a really good scrimmage on Saturday. He is considered a leader on this team and it’s big that he is finally getting some deserved recognition about his play. I think he’s an underrated guy in that versatile role he plays across the defensive line.
*** Decision day is here for five-star Williams Nwaneri. I have been on Missouri for about a week now and that would still be my pick as of this morning. That NIL law in Missouri is going to make the Tigers very tough to beat for any prospect in that state. I ultimately think that opportunity is going to play a big role as the final decision is made.
