Texas RB commit Jerrick Gibson says it’s possible he’ll attend a Florida Gators game

BRADENTON, FLORIDA —  Jerrick Gibson, IMG Academy’s 4-star running back, said Friday he’s locked in with his commitment to the Texas Longhorns.

But two other schools of note continue to recruit him.

“Florida and Miami,” Gibson told Gators Online.

The Gators’ message?

“They basically just tell me they’re in it for the long run,” Gibson said. “They ain’t gonna stop fighting until it’s done and over with. Right now, they’re just still fighting.”

Florida has one running back committed for 2024. That’s 4-star Kahnen Daniels of West Point, Miss. But the Gators would like to add a second back to the class and have targeted a few players committed to other schools. Gibson, a native of Gainesville, Fla., appears to be one of them.

Ironically, Gibson once was a Gators commit.

But his verbal was to the previous Florida staff. He backed off that pledge Feb. 15, 2022 then committed to the Longhorns earlier this year.

Now, he probably will be difficult to flip.

Gibson continues to say he’s solid to Texas

Gibson told On3 Friday he plans to get back to Texas during the season to watch the Longhorns play.

The IMG Academy bye weeks fall on one weekend when Texas plays a home game. The weekend of Sept. 30 for the Kansas game is a sound bet for when Gibson and teammate Jordon Johnson-Rubell will be back in Austin.

“I don’t have any (visits to Texas) right now, but we have two bye weeks during the season. On one of those two bye weeks, I’m going to try and get to Texas.”

The No. 64-ranked prospect in the country said building the class is the No. 1 goal for all the commitments.

“We have a great class, and bonding more with each other all the time,” Gibson said. “We are still trying to build on our class right now. There are some big lineman we want to come join us.”

Wrote Gerry Hamilton of Inside Texas: “For the Gators, this will be a tough mountain to climb. Gibson maintains that he is fully committed to (running backs coach) Tashard Choice and the Longhorns.”

That said, might the Gators also get a visit?

Gibson said that, yes, it is quite possible.

“I would like to make it to one of them,” Gibson told Gators Online. “I’m not sure which one, though.”
