Four-star DL eager to strengthen relationship with Florida Gators’ Sean Spencer

When the clock struck midnight of Aug. 1, a boatload of programs wasted little time reaching out to 2025 Hattiesburg (Miss.) defensive lineman Kevin Oatis.
One of them was the University of Florida, which extended a scholarship offer on May 10.
The Gators have yet to host Oatis for a visit but are pushing the right buttons from afar. And although other schools are recruiting him harder right now, mutual interest is still fairly strong.
Additional offers on the table include Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Michigan, Florida State, Penn State and Auburn.

“I know they have a great program,” Oatis said of UF when speaking with Gators Online. “I love the way their d-line plays. They take their job serious and I like that.”
When the Gators made contact on the first, it was defensive line coach Sean Spencer on the other end of the phone call. Outside linebackers coach Mike Peterson and assistant defensive line coach Kali James Jr. offered earlier in the year, so Oatis’ relationship with Spencer is still a work in progress.
“He’s a great guy,” Oatis said of Spencer. “He tells me a lot about Florida and great things. Hopefully, I can talk to him more and further this relationship and see what Florida is.”
Over a handful of programs are out front for Oatis
The majority of the top prospects will be in attendance for several games in the fall but have yet to finalize any dates. That is the situation for Oatis, who is eager to ultimately set foot in the Swamp.
“I want to go to one of their games. I have to see when,” Oatis said.
With still two years of high school left, the four-star prospect is in no hurry to pull himself off the market; however, he says LSU, Michigan, Texas A&M, Florida State, Mississippi State, Penn State and Ole Miss are standing out early on.
The in-state Rebels, according to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, are trending with odds of 43.4 percent.
“Schools say they love my playing style, how dominant I am, and that what I do is amazing,” said Oatis.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Oatis is the No. 17-ranked defensive lineman and No. 150-ranked prospect overall.
