What’s the next step for five-star Kobe Black?

Inside Texas stopped by Waco (Texas) Connally to check in with On3 Industry Ranking five-star Kobe Black on Tuesday.
The all-state defensive back is moving from corner to safety in 2023. It’ll allow him to better utilize his versatility for the Cadets. He’ll also play wide receiver on occasion.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder is dropping a top schools list very soon. Texas will certainly make the cut, with LSU, Ohio State, Texas A&M, and Oregon likely to round out the top five.
What is it about Texas that keeps them in the mix?
“It’s Texas football, it speaks for itself,” Black said. “Coach Sark and Coach Joseph show so much love.”
What stands out the most with the Longhorns?
“The coaching staff,” said Black. “The way they treat me, and how they can develop me for the next level.”
Black is still mulling a timeline for making a decision about his college future. He told Inside Texas he’s in no hurry to make a selection. His family wouldn’t mind if it happened before the season, but Black might want to take a few visits, notably to LSU, Alabama, and Oregon.
Black took unofficial visits to Texas and Texas A&M in the last week of July, and it’s probably safe to say they’re the top contenders.
Black wants to play early in college. Texas has mapped a plan that would allow Black the opportunity to do so if Ryan Watts bolts for the NFL next April. Sarkisian and Joseph continue to connect with the Cen-Tex star.
With his friend Colin Simmons announcing on Thursday, August 10th, IT asked Black for his thoughts on the pursuit of the state’s No. 1 player.
“I talk to my dog Colin all the time,” Black said. “I can’t want to see where he’s going.”
Join the club, Kobe.
Black is ranked as the No. 25 overall prospect, the No. 3 corner, and the No. 6 prospect in Texas in the 2023 On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services.
