WR Mekhai White commits to Maryland: ‘Maryland on the come up’

King George (Va.) three-star wide receiver Mekhai White has been sold on Maryland for a while. On Tuesday, he made the call to commit to the Teraphins.

White chose the Teraphins over Michigan, Tennessee and Virginia Tech. He felt like Maryland was home two months ago.

“I knew maybe two months ago that Maryland was the place for me,” White said.

White took his official visit to Maryland back on June 9. That visit went a long way in helping White make his decision.

“It was a good vibe everyone just chilling laughing and just getting to know each other a little bit more,” White said.

Mekhai White won over by Maryland culture

White was sold on Maryland’s culture. The relationships that he built during his recruitment made a big impact on White as well.

“Just the relationships I had with everyone up there, the players and staff (won me over),” White told On3.

White built a strong relationship with Maryland wide receiver Gunter Brewer over the last few years. Brewer remained consistent throughout White’s recruitment.

“My relationship with coach (Gunter) Brewer definitely pushed things over the top,” White said. “He stayed in constant contact with me.”

Maryland’s culture has White’s attention as well. White complimented head coach Michael Locksley’s momentum in building a strong program in Maryland.

“I think coach Locks is building a great culture and he is definitely building a winning and championship culture,” White said.

White feels Maryland is on its way back to being a contending in the ACC.

“Maryland football is on the come up and I think we will be national champions in a couple of years,” White.

White won’t have far to travel for college. He will make his way from King George Virginia to College Park, Maryland which is only an hour and a half from home.

That too has its benefits for White who is looking forward to being close to home and playing in front of family on a regular basis.

“It means a lot to me, my family will be able to see me play almost every weekend which is a plus,” White said.
