Miami impresses 4-star 2025 TE Ryan Ghea on second visit of summer: “You just have to see it for yourself”

Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton 2025 four-star tight end Ryan Ghea was busy on the recruiting trail this summer, but not too busy to make a second trip to Miami for the Hurricanes’ end-of-summer recruiting barbecue July 29.

Ghea, who was born in Miami and lived just minutes from campus as a child, originally planned to work out for the Hurricanes at a June prospect camp but instead visited for Miami’s star-studded cookout during the final weekend of July. He also took an unofficial visit to campus June 3 and has developed a strong relationship with Miami tight ends coach Cody Woodiel, who has helped spark his interest in the Hurricanes.

“I figured I was going to come down here, plus I wanted to show my mom around,” Ghea said. “My dad came with me last time, so I wanted to show her everything so she could see it for herself. The campus, you can’t really describe it. You just have to see it for yourself, so I had to get my mom down to see it. I was born here and we used to live around here, so they never really got to see it the way we’re seeing it now.”

Ghea, the No. 263 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking and No. 13 tight end, also visited Michigan, Clemson, Purdue and Vanderbilt in June. The 6-foot-5, 228-pound tight end left Clemson without an offer, but he previously told On3’s Jeremy Johnson he has been in contact with the Tigers’ staff since the camp.

Woodiel has served as Ghea’s primary recruiter, but he said he hears from Miami head coach Mario Cristobal as well.

“Me and coach (Woodiel), we talk probably one or two times a week, and then once in a while I’ll get on the phone with coach Cristobal and we’ll FaceTime too,” Ghea said. “Coach (Woodiel), he was just talking about how the educational portion (of the football program) has flipped so dramatically since they’ve been here and just how they’re going to change the program around. That’s been the constant message from them — that they’re going to change the program.”

Ghea said he’ll value a school’s academic standing and player development in his recruitment. He has offers from more than two dozen programs and said Miami, Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan and Wisconsin are among the programs he’s most heavily considering. He added he doesn’t want to publicly narrow down his list but wants to take several game day visits to schools this fall.

CaneSport’s Take

Ghea said he wants to do his research before he makes any decisions, but it’s encouraging the Hurricanes got him to campus twice in two months. Miami will likely continue to evaluate him, and don’t be surprised if he returns for a game this fall.
